im actually recording music streamed from the internets which is being played through the uDAC thru USB and that is going into the mic input via 1/8" - 1/8" interconnect

Umm....you are aware that music streamed from the internet is already in awful quality to begin with, much less considering the extra sets of conversions that it is going through in the process of being played back and then re-recorded through the mic input...I can't imagine that any of it would sound even half way decent after all of that.......there are muchhh better ways to get music.....muchhh better ways...at least if you are half way interested in sound quality....

pffffhahaha oh man I just had a flashback to recording fm radio on a cassette when I was a kid...

1) Why not just buy or pirate quality music like everyone else?

2) If you really want to pirate internet radio, there are programs that will digitally convert it straight to mp3 without the superfluous multiple conversions you are currently doing. Right now you are converting low quality digital music to analog, and then back to digital, but this time using the ADC on your low quality onboard sound. The end result is worse than even the 128kps stream it came from.

hahaha those were the days! i remember doing some of that too!

1.) yes i suppose i could do that... im actually using di.fm premium (256kbps) so its a continuous play... not sure of there is a program for that one (i have saver2...)

2.) i hadnt thought of that but it makes sense... aside from the noise at those low music volumes, the recording are fairly decent... but i can imagine not 256kbps as when its pumped out... and of course i can hear everything on the k702...

yes i completely agree... the 256kbps is much better than the low 96kbps option and it actually sounds decent just listening to it thru my dac and amp and cans... but recording is indeed the problem... most of the music i listen to is flac so having that 256k down sampled kinda really blows... esp with that electrical noise in the background... i guess ill go back to good ol rippin instead

Yes, go back to ripping instead. Even with your source being 256 kbps, it is going through a set of D/A conversions in the U-dac, and then going through a set of A/D conversions in your onboard sound card. After these two conversions (which degrade sound quality) it likely ends up being re-encoded into a lossy format again, which is another thing that should not be done..... Even if the music streaming was in perfect flac quality, I personally would raither listen to even a awful128 kbps mp3 which was  was ripped directly from the disk than what was recorded through your process...

You have a nice setup, but it can't put out better quality audio that what you give it in the first place. Git rid of the files you have recorded and replace them with  *real* copies of the songs,  you will likely be amazed at what you were missing. =]

haha i dunno if i'd go that far... like i said before aside from the electrical noise it doesnt sound terrible... not great obviously but definitely tolerable...

i do sincerely appreciate your help in answering my questions and pointing out the stuff i hadnt thought of... Thanks!
