Bass / Soundstage Under $300 - Page 3

The DT990 Pros is as close to a closed headphone as I've heard other than the large soundstage. It does have a closed headphone type sound. I honestly have to say I prefer the sound of the Premium DT990, just I didn't like the comfort for some reason.

So it looks like the Premiums will be the way to go for me. What didn't you like about the comfort of them though? I really want comfortable cans that I can wear for a long time. The only other headphones I've worn for long periods are the HD25s, which clamp really hard and the beats, which were heavy and hot.

Also, are you using an amp for your dt990 pros?

One last thing I was curious about is why the 600Ohm premiums are $250 like the 32Ohms, while the 250Ohms are $300.

The prices fluctuate. The 32ohm tend to be high because they tend to be rarer than the other two.

Yes, I'm using the E9, which definitely has plenty of power for the 250ohm.

Don't mind me about comfort. I have a very, VERY picky head in terms of comfort. The Premiums are gonna be comfortable for you.

Right now, the only thing not fully selling me on the DT990 Pro is the bass being just a bit much for NOW. These are fresh, and I'm not feeling 100% (headache), so I'll reassess them when I feel better and when the headphones are a little more broken in...

So it looks like I've narrowed it down to the dt990 premiums.

The question is,

Do I want 250Ohms or 600Ohms

and what amp should I get.

I would go with 600Ohms.

How much more money would you be willing to spend after that? If you want a decent, but cheap, amp then you can go for the FiiO E9. If you have a bit more to spend, you can go for the NFB-12.

Although I can't speak for Mad Lust Envy, my comfort experience with the DT990s has been great.. until I bought the D2000s.  Look at it like this.  The earpads on the Beyers are absolutely wonderful.  They're plush and soft, decently thick, and are easily breathable.  The padding on the headband is ample enough for me too.  The main thing they got going is having large earcups, an open back and velour earpads for easy breathability and good long-term wearing.  Their clamping force is middle of the road for me.

When I got the D2000s I was blown away at how well they actually fitted around my ears.  Their earpads are designed near flawlessly.  Even though they're pleather and they're closed back, in any well-ventelated room they'll never get sweaty because the clamping force of the D2000 is so low.  The one drawback is the headband (while light feeling) isn't as padded as it could be, and over long amounts of time the cans do get hot, although never sweaty.  The way the earpads are formed on the D2000s give the Beyers' large circle earpads a clumsy feel.

That's it really, the Beyers have very good comfort and long term wearability, but they just fit clumsily.
