Sennheiser 280 pro vs Audio Technica ATH-M50

Hey I could really use some help here, i'v decided to choose between these two.

So from where I can buy them:

The 280 pro comes out to $159

MH50 is $225

Now I'm sure the MH50 is better than the 280 pro, but is it worth spending an extra $66? Which is about 40% more. Ill be using it mostly for gaming and listening to music.

Also, my previous headphones were Sennheiser HD202s, it would greatly help if someone could compare that to one of these headphones just so I get a better idea of it all. Thanks!

Build quality and durability definitely goes to the M50 ~ the 280 Pro has a tendency to break a hinge after awhile.

More emphasized mid bass on the M50 compared to the 280 Pro, but they do carry a similar sound signature in

a way, I find the 280 Pro sounds little more balanced and less closed in to my ears.

Hey thanks for the reply, so would you say that the MH50 is worth spending the extra $66?

Not at that price of $225 unless a rugged build is really up there on your criteria list after sound quality.

They don't sound bad at all but their appeal is definitely the build quality, they're pretty tough.

Thanks, that goes quite a way in helping me decide :).

Sorry to add this in late, but how do you think the Sony XB500 would compare to those two headphones as well? Since it is about half the price of the 280 pro, but i've heard it is really good for it's price.

It's not bad if you're into bass, a lot of guys on here have spent quite a bit of time EQ'ing them to perfection

and say they respond quite well.

For about $60USD or so, it's a basshead's companion that's for sure. With EQ, bass boost and even let's

say a small portable amplifier like the Fiio E6 ($35USD) - it's a lot of bass for your face.

I see, i'm not sure I have the know-how to do the EQing part but i'll have to keep that in mind as well, thanks!
