Best $10 - $30 headphones

Thread Starter

Now, I am relatively new to headphones. I have only owned cheap ear buds and cheap in ear. But I want to upgrade to headphones. However, my budget is extremely limited, since I have to import these headphones to my country. So the cheaper the better, but I can stretch to about $30 maybe.

I mostly listen to classical music (yeah I know, I need audiophile headphones for it, but I don't have the money) and also some other genres, like normal pop etc. Also would be an extra bonus if it sounded great with movies and games. lol

I want a great all round head phone that would be much better than in-ear phones (at similiar prices).

I have narrowed it down a little bit:

Sennheiser HD 202 II, amazon has it for $18 now.

Sony's MDR-XD200 ($22)

Panasonic RP-HTX7 ($29.51)

JVC HARX300 ($13)

JVC HARX500 ($20)

Panasonic HTF600 ($33) little bit too expensive

Canyon CNR-HP2 (super cheap)

Or any other suggestion?

I don't know which one would be the best value for money. Since the reviews are so mixed.  I just want some really decent sounding headphones, that are also easy on the pocket.

Other info: I must be able to get decent volume from a normal portable music player.

Thanks

I think the KSC75 do classical well.  Also not bad for gaming.

I don't like the design of the KSC75. I also don't think it will really be able to isolate exterior sound.

The Monoprice MHP-839 is probably your best bet.

Koss UR-40.  It's been a long time since I had a pair, but they should be in the ballpark of ~$30 dollars.

Spend 3 more dollars and get the htf 600s.

How much better are the htf 600 compared to the other cheaper options. Since I basically have to multiply the price with 15, to get a fair reflection of what I will have to pay when importing it.

Well these panasonics have been getting rave reviews for the price they go up and are compared with cans costing on average about $150.

For the price they are hard to beat and are fun headphones as others put it.

Do what you can to get the panasonics, this inexpensive headphone has got alot of attention for being a $33 dollar headphone http://www.head-fi.org/t/571005/the-panasonic-rp-htf600-s-headphones-more-fun-than-the-hd650 ,

There's no options you wouldn't have to import?

I own the Panasonic HTF600s with velour pads. Are they deserving of positive reviews? Yes. Are they even close to $150 headphones? No, not even close. Dsnuts is a very good salesman with good taste in headphones, but he is very good at overexaggerating how good they are. I'll try to explain the HTF600 from a positive perspective and also a negative perspective to try and give you a good idea of how I feel they are.

Positive:

The HTF600 has a very warm sounding sound signature that is lush to the ear with a emphasis on the bass. It is easy to drive and can be used off portable devices. It is forgiving of lower quality source material. In terms of an engaging sound, it can compete with more expensive headphones.

Negative:

The HTF600 is a very muddy headphone with bass that leaks into the mids and blurs the entire sound. The driver is slow like molasses and gets confused when given fast paced material. The clarity on the HTF600 doesn't even come close to other headphones in its price range like the JVC HARX700. The reason it is "forgiving of source material" is because it is a low fidelity headphone that doesn't benefit as much from a better source.

Personally, I enjoyed the Panasonic HTF600, but it hasn't gotten much head time lately for me.

Well, the irony is, it is cheaper to import it than to buy it locally. Some of these phones when bought locally are basically double that which I would have payed when importing it. And is from a service that imports it to me and pays the customs etc.

As for the panasonic, I will look at the reviews, and then maybe I should take the plunge.

Yeah, I have been reading a lot from that thread ( http://www.head-fi.org/t/571005/the-panasonic-rp-htf600-s-headphones-more-fun-than-the-hd650 ) and have seen that Dsnuts is very good in hyperbole. However, I don't want to hear how this HP sound against $100+ HPs. Since that is way out of my price point. I want to know how it sounds against similarly and cheaper priced HPs
The JVC HARX700 is just too expensive, currently $52.50 on amazon. I just want some nice overall HPs that is the best value for money at a cheap price. Locally I how how crap are overpriced and people always try to justify their purchase of an expensive brand, even if that expensive brand has no history in making anything regarding audio and is most likely just a cheap OEM with a name slammed onto it.

The Pannys do look really nice. But I am still in the middle, since the pannys are a little bit of a stretch for my budget for a HP. Sorry that I didn't see your reply earlier.

The HARX700 is over $50? Okay, that's definitely not worth it -- I thought it was still comparable to the HTF600 at ~$35. Personally, I like the KSC75, which is much cheaper, more than the HTF600 but those are clip-ons with even less isolation.

Yeah. How does the HTF 890 compare to the HTF 600. I see amazon has it for ~$38. Also, is there any other cheap headphones that are better than the HTF 600 at a similiar price.

Will IE phones be better at this price point?

JVC HAS700.

263

Very comfy, isolates like a king.

Avoid the HTX7 like the plague. One of the worst headphones I have ever heard.
