Klipsche X10 Issue/ Observation

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum, but not new to headphones overall. I just purchased the Klipsch x10 IEM from Amazom (saw a thread here about the sale, so I decided to grab a pair). I previously owned the S4i, but I felt they were too bass heavy and have heard good things about the x10s.

My query is regarding the volume level of the x10s. I ride the subway to work, and I like loud music in general. I noticed that when I cut the volume on my iphone (an subsequently my mac) the headphones rattle. Its sort of like the drivers are rattling when the bass hits because it is up too loud. When I turn it down (to around 80%) it goes away.

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? I own several Klipsch products (RF-82 towers in my living room atsmile.gif) and have never experiences "volume" issues no matter how loud I cut it up.

Thanks

I just turned up my Klipsch X10s as loud as I dared to go, with the bass EQ'd up, on Lunar Bass, just because it was what I was listening to when I opened your thread (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovEjtKrYRgk) and didn't hear any rattling.

Maybe you can tell me what specific song you were using and I'll try that one too? I don't think they should rattle though.

prob a faulty pair, return to Amazon and ask for a replacement pair.

Okay, go to this link and listen to the song by Black Eye Peas on loud volume. When you do so, it will be the same scenario as to what I am referencing.

It makes a rattling noise when the bass hits on this bass heavy song for me.

If I'm not mistaken, the OP is talking about the volume pumping sounds that come from electronics as the volume changes?

I think you may be hearing the electronic noise whatever volume changing electronics are making. I notice thumps on sensitive IEMs when I take things from a very high level (40 on my Cowon S9) down to lower levels, but once it's below 75% of max, I don't hear the volume going down in little thumps anymore.

BTW you dont even have to keep the buds in your ear to observe this. If you just leave them sitting in your hand, you hear the rattling on the outside as well.

Pending the response, I may send back tomorrow to amazon.

Thanks for the response - sigh, looks like they are going back to Amazon then.

X10 owner here. I've had mine a couple of weeks now and I'm listening to your song as we speak and no rattling here either. I've got it set pretty high and it's sounding pretty good. Sorry to say it looks like your pair may be defective.

By the way thanks for the music link I'm gonna grab that song it sounds pretty good.

Do you guys not know how dangerous it is to listen to very efficient IEMs at full/high volumes?

^I realize the danger... My player is at a high volume level when I plug it in, but I turn it down, then start the music playing, usually not exceeding 15/40 for the volume.

Yep, I just temporarily turned it up in the real bassy parts. I generally keep my volume at around 55 to 65% on my iPod when using the X10.

Did you buy your X10s from Amazon or a third party vendor "through/fulfilled through" Amazon?  I wonder since there is appears to be a large quantity of counterfeit big brand name IEMs out there.

It says I got them from Amazon not another company where it would say if it were a third party.

I sugggest you return them to amazon.

I returned my X10's because I had an issue with mine too. When I inserted them in my ears, they stopped producing sound for a very short amount of time. This made me worry about their built quality so I returned them. Seems like many persons who bought the X10 or the TF10 from amazon during the black friday got a defective pair.

Also, you can see if it's sold by a third party on the product page. It's written:

Sold by --- and fulfilled by amazon.
