Hi, im very confused about which lossless format is best and easiest to use, and which program to download and use, and which program to use to put it on my player, basically the whole shebang. can anybody help. thanx

All lossless formats sound equally good, but they differ in support and slightly in things like file size and decode speed (which impacts battery performance). Pick whichever one the player you use supports.

Everything else sort of depends on what player you're using, what operating system your computer uses, and how you're getting the lossless files.

When you can, use FLAC, if you have an iPod, convert them to ALAC (you can convert them back later and it'll be the same digits). When possible, stay away from wav - can't be tagged or organized.

FLAC is easily the most popular lossless format, and your player supports it, so go FLAC.

When you come across compression level, that just says how much work is put in to make the file smaller. You should pick 8 unless your computer is a dinosaur. It takes a bit longer to compress, but you'll save a few kilobytes (it helps in the long run with large collections).
