What is the best headphone choice for Production?

Hey I'm looking at the following headphones for use with Ableton Live for making music. There are some headphones that I have been looking at but can't decide which one would be the best for the job.

1. Denon AH-D2000

2. AKG K 707

3. Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro the 80's or the 250 ohms... Dunno what the difference is.

4. Beyerdynamic DT 880

5. Audio Technica ATH-AD900

6. Shure SRH940

7. Seinheisers?

Are there any producers out there that can recommend some headphones?

Beyerdynamic DT880 600ohm or Sennheiser HD600

Sennheiser 380HD Pro gets a lot of use in studios too,

then you've got the Audio Technica M50.

M50 are really popular studio monitors. But I think that's more of a price point issue. I say some seen HD6xx or maybe the K701.

I got a questionaire fer ya does the frequency response matter? I got the idea into my head that if you have headphones that say hit from 5hz to 40hz that would be the way to go mainly because you will hear more things than you would from another set of headphones. Is that even remotely right? Thats why I thought the AH-D2000 would be a good thing because they have a very large range while the DT 880 doesn't quite get that array of frequency nor does any other headphone for around that price.

KRK KNS8400.... made by a monitoring speakers manufacturer company, the KRK, would probably good for monitoring and producers too,

cheers,

Shure srh840 for on a budget. The srh940 might be good but i have yet to receive mine.

Sony MDR-7506 is another popular studio headphones. Producers on Gearslutz seem to like M50, SRH840, and HD280 Pro mainly.

5 to 23 Hz is a little low isn't it? wouldn't that kinda suck for production? I could deffinately be wrong about that but just curios.

So are the Allen and Heath Xone XD 53 only good for djing? I got them right now and I was wondering if they just need an amp or something in order to hear the low end because there isn't a very deep bass in these headphones at all... Kinda chapped about that. And yet it says they go from 5 to 33 Hz.... I don't think i have a clue what the hertz thing is. I thought it was the frequencies you would be able to hear with the headphones.

Since the K-707 are not out yet, I can recommend on the K-702, but you'll need a nice solid state hps amp. If you want to save the amp for start, check out the Apogee Duet audio interface.

Even better your V100 that is for sale may have found a new home with the OP :-)

Balance that puppy via an XLR output equipped DAC and you're all systems go!

Well thank all ya'll for the replies! But I think I'm gunna go with the DT 880's or the DT 770's that mr.Gwarmi mentioned because they seem solid and they have the specs I want.... I think..... I really hope they are better than my Allen & Heaths though, like jesus will be chapped if they don't sound any diff ;p. And then since they are 250 ohms ( I figured out this ohms **** finally) I will need a pretty good amp. Think the Audinist Hud MX1 will do the trick? But if they is a cheaper one that that would be slick!

While it is true that you will technically hear "more" with a phone going farther in frequency range, the truth is that humans in general can only hear up to around 18khz, so it really doesn't matter unless you have some random ultra-high frequency noise that makes its way into your recording, which is far from likely.

Frequency range is bullcrap meaningless marketing jumbo.  Often times when they say it extends down to 5hz it's because it physically produces something at that frequency, but it's so rolled off by then it's not useful at all.  None of the specs they list like that are useful except for figuring out how hard a headphone is likely to be to drive.

Of these, the DT880 is recommended if you do not need isolation, because it has a more balanced and even frequency response.

Yes, according to this.
