You cant go wrong with it.  It doesn't get much talk here on head fi although this is a stellar amp.

The 4.Ai may not be able to produce upper vocals as lively as they should be, or upper treble.  One thing they are magnificent at is the piano.  Absolutely gorgeous reproduction of the piano that sounds lively and accurate.  Texturing on the low-offtones of the piano are absolutely gorgeously produced with the 4.Ai.

If anyone is interested, we just did a large roundup of top-of-the-line custom IEMs over at InnerFidelity. Here's a link. I won't spoil it for you, but let's just say Heir Audio did pretty well overall.

Excellent reviews! It seems JH13 pro, Westone ES5, UM Miracle and Heir 8.A was the best of the bunch. And JH13 pro was the most favorite among the reviewers cumulatively.

I'm surprised the JH13 FreqPhase scored at the very top. When I first saw Harvey being interviewed by Jude explaining his FreqPhase idea I put it off as no more then market speak and thought if half of what he was claiming is true I'd eat my Grado's. Looks like I'm eating my Grado's for lunch tomorrow.

The power of expectation affects everybody, even those extremely well established reviewers. I tried the demo of the old and new jh-13 prior to my purchase of the 8A. I found the difference well, negligible. The IEM guy was being a smart-ass and made me try the old and new JH-13 before I was aware of the freqphase and pre-freqphase models, and so I thought they were the exact same models. devil_face.gif

Ha ha, awesome.

Interesting the reviewer mentioned the 4A sounds better than 4Ai. I am wondering if this is a technical improvement from design or simply improvement from better seal provided by custom.

Can't really know for sure what effects the longer nozzle could have.  It might just be the seal (that will always play a role), might be the elongated nozzle, or both.

I haven't tried the 627, but yes, the Rendition 1 amp works exceptionally well with the 8.A, but that is to be expected I guess. Very clean and precise sound, with the power to knock out your fillings when the bass hits, but never exaggerates or bloats the bass, just allows the 8.A to really show what it can do. It's a very nice match for the Tzar 350 as well.

Oh and it will power the LCD2 v2 very, very well at 50% volume. Haven't tried it with the T1 yet but I suspect it won't be a problem.

The 8.A really isn't very picky with amplification as long as you go for a clean sound and make sure to keep the output impedance in check. They are slightly warm and has the ability to deliver A LOT of bass when called for, so something with heaps of sloppy bass and a warm signature like the Fiio E11 might not be the best match for them.

Thanks! I was shocked at how we tended to agree on our preferences. I thought for sure there would be a lot of back and forth required, ended in an unsatisfying compromise. Turns out it was pretty easy to choose the favorites. JH13 was universally appreciated for its abilities, but if you read it in depth you'll see how some of us preferred others based on sound signature. The ES5, the Miracle, and the 8.A all have their moments were I'd rather have them than the JH13.

Believe me, I would never have guessed. As I said, the original JH13 was not my favorite. I still don't know what the reasoning is behind the FreqPhase but it sure sounds good.

As I keep saying, I had no expectations whatsoever regarding this new model. Several of the other writers there are rather picky when it comes to this stuff, and would love nothing more than to blast a new product as hype rather than substance. We just didn't get the chance in this case. But I can totally understand why you went with the 8.A over the JH13, as the 8.A is a seriously great IEM too.

I think it's a combination of things. I posted about the 4.Ai in the "Heir World Tour" thread, if you want to find that and read more.
