I'm wondering how high I should bid on this cable...

I'm having a bidding war with someone, and I don't know how much the cable is worth, any clues?

If I'm going up against a fellow head-fi'er let me know by PM, and i'll back off :)

Hi Duncan, good to see you at the meet yesterday.  Thanks for letting me see your Xperia Z & HTC One, it was a double pleasure as my phone contract is up on the 3rd of May!

Well the Nordost Valhalla is one of the more renowned speaker & interconnect  cables you can get for reference Hi-Fi systems so can only imagine if it is the same properties as the speaker cables or interconnects they do it would not of been cheap to start with.  I must admit I did not realize Nordost knocked out iem cables which has now pricked up my ears.

Via blue plug on the cable-  that is  what I had on my Whiplash TWag cables you saw yesterday which are op there with Nuitrik plugs.

I think someone else on ebay has one of these as a buy it now for approx £185 (not including shipping from HK)

Had a good old session with my 5.0's today and they are definitely opening up thank god, came a day too late really, but is interesting listening back and forth between the 4AI and 5.0.

Good luck bidding if you do : )

For those few who possess both the 4ai and the 5.0 do you feel the 5.0 is worth the extra $200?  Aside from a bigger low end what else does it offer?

What else do you need? The standard wood is burl like on the + package for the 4ai which I quite like.
Wizard has posted that there are no drivers in common between the 4ai and the 5.0. To my ears, it sounds like it, they are very different. In my opinion the 5.0 are more detailed and have a better extended and resolving high end in addition to the thunderous but not overpowering low end.
Both are brilliant but I absolutely love the 5.0.

Hi FortisFlyer75...

Indeed - Was good to put a face to a name too, and it was a highlighting experience...

Over the past day and a bit, I have been listening a lot to the Tzar's, and - I must say that whilst the bass and treble are not as strong (or, in the case of the treble, as smooth / extended) as that of the XBA4's, the midrange by comparison is to die for - as is the extra detail...

Makes the XBA4 sound thin by comparison, (and they make the Sony MH1 sound thin - so, I really don't want to go back to those anytime soon!!)...

Re the cable, I'm the max bidder at the moment - don't know how much more I want to bid - Is a shame in hindsight that I didn't listen to your JH16 cable, to get a feel for what extra goodness I'm probably forking out for!

I'm in the process of getting Heir 8.A. I use a ipod classic 160gb 7th generation. I've been wondering what would be a good amp or idevice amp/dac combo with good synergy for 8.A?

I've have been eyeing on the SONY PHA-1. Anyone knows how it is or the Fostex HPA-P1, Vamp Verza or Go Dap X with 8.A? Any recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

It looks like they got a loom of Nordost wire and made a cable with it - so it's not "technically" like Nordost getting into the business of IEM cables. Yet it is a true Nordost cable. If that makes sense.

Heir's own Rendition 1 amp goes very, very well with the 8.A.

Thanks for the recommendation. I think it has very low output impedance and hence suitable for IEMs. But I'm also curious about the dac/amp combos that would support my ipod classic.

Btw, just dig out this feedback regarding the Rendition 1 amp. Not very motivating:

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I didn't read anything negative about the rendition in that feedback

It doesn't have a DAC, which is a dealbreaker if Radiohead99 wants a portable amp with a DAC in it.

I wouldn't call it a deal breaker though; its just that I'd prefer a dac/amp combo. But I'm open to an amp that really mates well with my ipod classic and have a very good synergy with 8.A

No I didn't mean there's anything negative in the feedback. What I was trying to single out was the fact the user couldn't distinguish iphone out vs redintion 1 when listening for moderate volume and it seemed to him in that scenario that rendition amp only allowed him to have higher volumes. Also, comparison to Fiio E07 is not really confidence boosting as it is from a much lower price point.

"I compared the sound quality at moderate volume levels on my iphone 5 alone to the iphone plus the Rendition 1, listening to Walk Off The Earth's new R.E.V.O. album.  If I matched volumes, I could not tell a difference at all.  Which tells me that it's doing a great job as an amp.  The Rendition 1 just allows higher volumes."

I'm using the R1 with my DX100 - not claiming a night and day difference, but a subtle change that I really like with my 8.A. YMMV and all that smile.gif

Agreed on the 'subtle changes' in audiophile world  - many times they translate into much higher enjoyment of music over time. That has been my experience. And many times, the night and day differences - the initial excitement fades away really quick.
