that could be due to a bad fit.

Don't say the words "bad fit" I pick up my 4A's tomorrow morning and you're going to jinx me.

It still sounds like 88.2 has some benefits over the normal 44.1, but that a solid 44.1 would work just as well. However, I now have absolutely no desire to try out 192, not that I had much of one before.

I do love the way my 8.A sounds, and I do think there's a bit of a shift in how it sounds now that I've had it. It just feels a bit more full. The mids have settled into place a bit more than they were before and everything else has rounded out rather nicely. I don't know how much of this is the headphone or my ears getting used to them (both literally and metaphorically). Either way, I'm rather pleased with my purchase and my only problem, at this point, is that I don't really use them at home given I don't have a good amp for them there.

That may change in the coming months, however.

Glad you're enjoying your 8.As.  What amp are you considering for the home?

Synergy is definitely essential for getting the best out of the 8As. They are actually quite picky on what they will shine on and what they will not. At least to my standards that is. :P

As soon as my 8.As return home, I'll try them out with my V200 (w/ builtin DAC) and will compare that with the DX100.  Seriously missing my CIEMs redface.gif

I do miss mine a bit as well. But more so I'm in no rush as I want them to be done right this time around. The Flat4 has really helped to heal that wound :).

"But do you have a proper source?" I hear you thinking. Well does the Ibasso DX100 count? 128gb of pure lossless (16/44.1 to 24/192) pumping through a very, very fine implementation of the ESS Sabre DAC.

"But how about headphones? What are you driving with it?" Oh nothing special. Only the mighty 8.A and the ruthlessly revealing and highly demanding Tzar 350. And the 4.Ai for good measure. Can't have a Heir party without the 4.Ai can you? Got the powerhungry Beyer DT770 Anniversary Edition (The one that actually has a midrange) sitting here as well.

The R1 sounds very clean, no hiss or crackling with any of my kit. Compared to the DX100 on it's own, I find the R1 (very, very low hours. >20) to add a bit of body to the sound, but without coloration. All the aforementioned headphones are driven with authority and the bass is SLAMMING on the 8.A and DT-770. Will probably do a full review as I get to know this thing better.

You're like the Heir-phoneus Supremus heir, I mean here.

I used it on my Triad L3/DACport LX combo but honestly wasn't that impressed with the synergy. On specific tracks yes but for general music listening it left a lot to be desired.... The N1 was its saving grace (both shocking, intriguing and even disappointing at the same time considering their prices differences....).

Currently M-Audio Transit as USB DAC, then the Electric Avenues PA2V2. Not tried yet with my Yamaha RX-V 3800, which has some excellent DACs builtin.

To be honest, I hear background hiss/noise with the PA2V2, even when volume is set to 0. I will try with various phones and my tablet while I'm off next week, then decide if I need a better source or not.:)
