It does seem a tad like you are knocking me since I haven't actually heard them, which I do understand.

I am, but I am not pissed or anything :) I do believe, without having heard them, that these are high quality IEMs. And they are in my radar as I am investigated more "fun" iems to complement my Miracles and 1plus2 (which I haven't even received yet:) ).

However, I tend to react when people praise Heir all the time, because there is a huge fan wave right now, and it is a bit exaggerated. Do not mistake my thoughts: I think Heir Products much be great because many "serious" headfiers love them, but let us be more objective. Every time someone starts a thread asking which is the top CIEM to buy, Heir Audio says : "buy ours, they are the best". You could argue that other brands should do the same but it would be tiring. Besides, in these threads, many people claim Heir are the best without having compared them, and sometimes without having heard them. I own 2 UM CIEMS, but still I don't say they are the best on the planet. I think they are great, and I do not know how they measure to others. Some other brands I have tried the demos, but it would not be fair to compare demos and real customs. And again many people say: "I don't like this brand or that brand" just because they demoed a pair for 5 minutes.

Well anyways, maybe if I buy Heir 8.a I will haunt all the forums to say how great they are :)

Its kinda like buying speakers, people ask what is the best, a common answer is the one that sounds best to you. My opinion is just like everyone else, its just my opinion. Everyone has different ears, different sources, different music, different settings, so one persons choice of the best is not going to be agreed upon. There is no 100% right or wrong, unless its Bose, or Beats etc. bigsmile_face.gif

I've only had 2 CIEMs but I can tell you for sure that the 8.A walks all over the UM Merlin - as it should, given the price difference.

What sets Heir apart from the rest (at least in my book) is their unrivaled customer service and dedication.

Mine was perfect...and if you deal with Stephen Guo at UM, he answers all your questions live. I even keep on bugging him every I am having doubts. He has become my IEM Therapist :)  Another guy offering great service is Gavin at Tralucent.

I can't say the 8As are my best IEMs but they bring me quite a bit of musical enjoyment, which also extends to movies and gaming. The isolation is the biggest plus for me in all honesty. It's funny because the sound signature between the 8A and the 1Plus2 are very different and it takes me time to adjust to both :P.

In the end, we all agree on the same thing. That all these well known companies make great products. Every one of them has their strengths in a certain aspect. You could potentially buy any one of them and be satisfied.

Apart from the bad box, I had a very, very, very bad experience dealing with Ampcity/UM UK.

Problem with customs. The inability to demo subject to your location. It makes committing to a decision difficult. Not to mention issues with fitting etc when the consumer may have to bear the costs etc.

Basically, some of us, myself included, are more or less in the dark with purchases especially when we don't have gazillions to throw around. It was nice that one of the makers was willing to try and help me out with listening to their universal though there isn't a local shop down my end. It's the little things that count and I appreciate good customer service.
