I was actually skeptical when I bought mine. However, after spending some real time I don't think I'll ever go back to non-customs. Were they expensive? Yes. However, the sound is amazing. The amount of sound I was missing is astounding. I think part of it is due how much better the sound from a good custom is but also to the fact that these things block out so much noise!

I ride the SF muni trains every day to and from work. With my IEMs in I can barely hear the train. I don't mean, "Oh, with music playing..." I usually listen to podcasts on my commute. And in between the talk, in the empty space, I can barely hear the train. With music I can't hear the train at all.

The Westone 3 triple flanges are much more comfortable when you cut off the 3rd flange...  but not really a replacement for a custom.

GUESS WHAT the manager dealing with pay was on holiday this week, my back account form wasn't processed until after payday.... won't be paid until the TWENTIETH OF AUGUST :O

On the other hand, that just about guarantees being able to afford the mould and the 8.A.

I has excitement.

Also, am going to be pairing these with the Vorzuge vorzampduo.  Will let you know how we get on.

To me, even a great fitting custom has slightly less isolation than something like a deeply inserted comply tip or triple flange tip. The key benefit though is that customs aren't too far behind in isolation, but are MILES ahead in comfort. Kilometers ahead, for my fellow HeadFiers in other parts of the world. Those deep insertion universals may isolate better but it doesn't matter since I can't take more than 5 minutes with them in my ears.

X2. From a comfort standpoint customs cannot be beat. I had my 8a's bulked up a little bit so hopefully they isolate slightly better. My 8a's are now in the engraving stage and then will be heading to qc.

My 8.A matches the isolation I got with Shure Olives, maybe even just slight beats it. But like you I could never stand more than 5 minutes with triple flanges and other "deep insertion" tips. I love how customs just "disappear" once inserted, especially with a nice flexible cable I never notice them during the day - I just enjoy the music etysmile.gif

Another great point. After reading your thoughts along with project86's and average joe's I ordered the Magnus upgrade as well. With any luck everything will be here by the end of next week.

Sorry about your wallet - At least the Magnus is one of the more reasonably priced custom cables out there, with focus on functionality rather than bling.

I've actually given serious thought to requesting an un-terminated 6-foot Magnus cable for my HD650. Compared to the Magnus, their cable now feels like it was made for securing cruise ships to docks in hard weather. So thick and bulky! Sadly, with my main rig now being a DX100 with the 8.A (and Magnus) my Visa-card is still sitting in the corner, scared and crying like a beaten stepchild. I know many users here have main rigs far north of the ~$2200 worth of kit on my desk but I have to support two kids and a wife, plus we live in a house that was obviously built in a hurry, 30-something years ago. This means that raising $200 to buy a better cable for a set of headphones that get 2 hours of head-time a week is going to take some time...

Sorry - back on track: Looking very much forward to hear your thoughts on your ciems and their cable!

I know exactly where you are coming from.

There are pics up of my build on Heirs facebook site. The custom color dark amber with clear canals and ebony face plates. The Wizard did a phenomenal job as usual. This is my second set of customs from Heir and this process has been as smooth as it was originally. I just cannot say enough great things about Heir Audio and John. I do wonder if he ever sleeps.

Sv: Heir Audio - The Appreciation Thread

It amazes me that The Wizard just keeps putting out one beautiful design after the other.
