The inspiration, the reasoning for it etc.
Due to the many requests of an 8.Ai, I pulled out a 5 driver design plan I had made while in Thailand, blew the dust off of it, and got to work.
The end result is a 5 driver IEM, with the 8.A herritage. Is it an 8.A? No, as that would be impossible. Is it a great, warm sounding, non-siblant sound signature with mind boggling bass.....
Yes
So for those that are in search for 8.A'ish SQ in the form of an IEM..... we have it. The initial plan is that all 5.0 will be in standard buckey burl
Those are the first set of 5.0 to ever go out the door, and now reside in Japan. Subsequent sets are in Portugal, and USA.....
They have also made a visit to Denmark, where the guru of the 8.A resides. I imgagine we will hear from him shortly.
"Rollin in my 5.0"
The other bit of news is:
We are inches away from having an UK location, just as we have on in the USA
Will there ever be a 6.0! joking, I think?
The faceplate looks a thing of beauty.
I am used to the JH16's, how will the mid and low bass presentation on the 5.0 compare to my 16's?
Despite asking this question I am a sucker for being a mid-centric with my favourite listening preference.
Oh, how many bores will the 5.0 have?
UK location is most welcomed and will edge me closer to my first pair of Heirs one day knowing this news.

1) I can't openly discuss this, but I am the guy that shoe horned 20 drivers into a CIEM
2) I am not familiar enough with JH16 to make any claims
3) 2 bores
4) We are excited as well to have a UK location
Quote:Looks like an 0 M and an inverted Y but it could not be done as the junction points would look rather strange, they would have to be perfectly alligned etc. I doubt the laser has that type of resolution as well.
The image could be ingraved, I have no doubt there, but I would attempt to do wood inlays

Heir audio announcement:
A while back, I got an e-mail from a fellow Head Fi member, the e-mail stated (I paraphrase)
Hello Wizard,
I work in the (X) industry, and I have a team of people working with me, and we think we can assist you.
Thus a new shell was born. The original hand carved IEM shells were impressive in the fact they were hand carved, but they certainly had their own set of issues. One side may be slightly bigger, smaller, longer ear tip burm taller on one side thatn the other.
Our fellow Head Fi freind drafted some new shells, and had them printed on an SLA machine, and by doing so, the shells now comform with each other. They currently are still hand poured, but they are itentical.
Now our IEMs represent a "home grown" colaborative effort from Head Fi members.
Thanks so much for your help!

Quote:Yes, and here is a pic with wood and the new shell design. Keep in mind that the shell design is very similar, it still maintains the Heir Audio "flavor" & dimensions, interior volume capacity etc.
In other words, it is still freakishly small.
post #5559 of 73662/22/13 at 7:18pmLooks amazing Wizard, I can picture you just taking those off, snapping the picture for here and putting them right back on.
Instead of "Beats by Dr Dre" you have "THUMPS by Dr J".
For those of you who haven't seen Heir's universals they are indeed freakishly small. That Wizard crammed a fifth driver in there is hard to believe. That they will rattle your fillings out must break a few laws of physics.post #5560 of 73662/22/13 at 7:49pm- FullCircle

Long while back I was thinking
"Harmonic Beats by Dr. J"
But thumps should work as well

I think "Euphonic Beats by Dr. J" would be better. What is the output impedance of the Rendition1?
I know there are other factors that go into making an amp good for IEMs, e.g. channel imbalance, but for the 4.A, what would be an "optimal" output impedance for an amp? The wiki page just uses ">>", which in practice differs in every application.

It kind of depends on what theory you run with (rule of thumb)
But the impedance of the 4.A/4.Ai is around 20
so depending on which rule of thumb you go with, would determine the answer to your question.
As far was what is the output impedance of the R1, you should ask David Tao that question, e-mail Nancy question and she will forward it over to him.
As for me, I don't know a lot about the R1, as MDSP was in charge of building the amp . (and Toa is in charge of MDSP) Spend a little time researching MDSP and you will understand that they would have the background for that, while I openly state that I do not.
I do know that the amp sounds great, has a very long battery life.
That about sums up what I know.

I have always heard the 8*headphone to 1*(amp output) rule, but I never heard any satisfactory explanation for it, so I was just crowd sourcing if 8/1 is what ">>" means in this application. I just always thought this was a case of engineers being sloppy (I'm a mathematician who likes to poke fun).
It is interesting to hear that Heir Audio is really embedded in Micro-DSP, and not just some audio company sharing some manufacturing facilities and supplies.
post #5564 of 73662/23/13 at 8:13amI know the 3A / 3Ai isn't as popular on the thread... but bass quantity wise... would the 5.0 be a lot stronger than the 3's?

I know this sound crazy, but I need to sit down with the 3.Ai and spend time with them....
as for now, I have been using the 5.0 with dub step, Led Zeplin etc...... and if the 3.Ai hits harder than the 5.0 I would be very surprised.
