I just realized my last posts were more than a touch OT. I tend to get flighty and sidetracked. I also meant to say that yes, the amp section of the UHA-6S pairs very nicely with 4.Ai and 3.Ai. I would suggest the 8610 op amp. Whether you have use for the DAC or not that is up to you.

Oh, okay. Sorry for some reason I was confused by the wording.
I would certainly look into trying another DAC in the future, then the UHA as amp only. Got it. lol.
The point I was making earlier was that UHA (and it's DAC) is the best of what modest collection of gear I have so far. It's also worth mentioning that I don't have any other DAC. All my ipods and clips and phone, etc work very nicely with the UHA as an amp only. However, Using the UHA DAC/Amp together surpasses those sources in quality (my opinion). It might not be the ultimate .... but so far it's the best I have.
This doesn't mean I'm done buying stuff. Ha ha. So maybe a dedicated DAC down the line.
Yep I agree with you. The unit is surely an upgrade over an ipod or Sansa products. Just when I tested it with the gear that I currently have I was left underwhelmed and irritated ;).post #4743 of 73571/26/13 at 12:54am- ocelot2500

Sorry to cause confusion, but I was mostly curious about the DAC performance of the UHA-6S. The amp section of the UHA-6S is what is most talked about, but the DAC section is kind of glossed over for those that don't have a DAC.

If you want a really good DAC look into the DACport LX. In terms of price to performance it has been one of my top purchases made on headfi. It has also managed to stay with me the longest out of all my gear. The price has gone down a bit as well. I think its $250.00 now.
Sorry, my question should've been, does the DAC in the UHA-6S compare to a similar DAC in the <$200 range?I know it is an unfair question, but if the UHA-6S DAC can compare, it would be a very good upfront investment. Otherwise, does anyone have any preference for the Dacport LX, Dragonfly, ODAC, or any other suggestions?
Currently I have an Ibasso D7 which I find to resolve most recordings (that I listen to) well, with my Triple.Fis and HF5s. But I feel like the details could be a little more effortless with a more capable DAC, especially from what I hear about the 4.As.

I have the D7 and the 4.A as well; it should be fine for your purposes. The DACPort is a marginally better DAC (I've A/B'ed the two), but it's not significantly better. The D7 is one of the better values around; it's main issue is the USB rail power noise if you don't have clean power out of your computer. The DACPort is better at taking care of that stuff, but it's not immune either. I'd recommend getting a portable amp with clean, resolving output and a good volume pot for better volume control, since the D7's line out is basically as good as any.

I'd say if you were to buy a dedicated DAC within that range it would still be better. Something like the HRT Music streamer II. The DACport LX is better than the DACport due to being a pure dac and not having the volume control which takes away from its transparency/resolving power. Personally it isn't just a marginal difference between the UHA6MKII DAC section. When I compare the 2 I am left quite disappointed with the internal DAC of the UHA6 MKII. But the thing is if you haven't heard better nor have any better sources to compare to (I'd say don't worry about it), then just stick with it. But if you want better the options are out there.

From what I'm given to understand, the UHA-6S II is a solid DAC for the price. Can you get better? Of course. However, as a first step into portables it's pretty solid.- Poimandres

Help!
I have stuff (wax I presume) stuck in my 4a sound tubes (all four of them would you believe) and I cant get it out. It has gone too deep for the hooped cleaning tool and i have been trying to use a longer safety pin to fish it out but no joy. The metal ring that looks to be near the top of the tube isnt helping as it creates a rim that makes it difficult to get the debris past.
Is there anything else i can do? Do i just accept that it is there? Will it be affecting sound quality? Do I send it back to Heir (being in the uk id rather not do that but will do if necessary and Heir think they can sort it)? Could i take it to a more local company to fix (ultimate hearing protection are a ciem company quite near me) but what about invalidating warranty?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
The debris are the dark spots nearer to the drivers - the dark spots near the end of the tubes are the metal(?) rings that should be there!
