My problem with this is quality control, I am not convienced I could sub-contract this type of work in the USA and still get the same level of quality we produce in Chengdu.  Thus we would have to have a 100% dedicated lab in the USA and that would be cost prohibitive especially at this point in time.

Be sure to bring your significant other along so that they can laugh at the goop spilling out of your ears. It's fun for everybody!

(1) Not really. It could have been your fault if you didn't hold your jaw in the right location during the curing process of your impressions, which could cause variance in your normal ear canal shape. It could also be your fault if you didn't closely inspect the impressions, maybe missed a flaw, and didn't express your concern to your audiologist. There is no way for Heir to tell if it was a poorly made impression and the fault of you or your audiologist, or if it was their fault in the crafting process. With that in mind, they can't just continuously take the financial fall for poor fits if they do not know who was actually at fault. Think of all the money they would lose. That is probably why most companies recommend credible audiologists in your area.

(2) But it's also not Heir's fault that they decided to open their business in China, and you decided to give them your business. You bought into that knowingly.

How does one closely inspect an impression to see if there are any flaws? Also, out of curiosity, has any of you actually thought of sending TWO pairs of impressions at the same time just to take into account possible canal variance?

True..I would imagine if you sent in two and they were an exact match..then you are good to go and its a good "insurance"
...but...if they are at all different the manufacturer wouldn't know which to use then you are probably then going to need to send in a third set as a tie-breaker!

The impressions are used as the matrix for the silicone mould used to cast the IEMs. You can't average two impressions, you can only use one or the other.

I loved my Sennheiser PX200's before I got my Ultimate Ears UE700's. And I loved those until I bought my Denon AH-D2000's. And I loved those until I got my Heir Audio 4.A's (and later Hifiman HE-500 for home use).

That seems to be the way of it; I love what I have until I hear something better. I'm sure I'll love my 4.A's until the day comes that I break down and buy the 8.A.

Ooohhhh...lucky!
The 6.A seems really nice, good for you. I shipped my impressions only like a week or so ago. The wait is going to be a long one, but worth it!

I've heard the SR009,HD800 and T1 and could walk away feeling happy about what I already had. The He500 is a different story, I'll probably be getting those one day.

If I'm from Canada, should I be shipping my ear impressions to 5395 Napa Street #238, San Diego, CA USA 92110? I've noticed a lot of people here are shipping it to China so I just wanted to confirm.

Yes, you should ship to San Diego. The office in San Diego check out your impressions to make sure they were well done, and then send them over to Chengdu. The shipping will be cheaper for you as well. I sent my impressions express from Calgary and it cost $11.00. It would likely be $35.00 or more to ship to China.
