Looks like it. Have you been to China? I lived in Chengdu for several years and Taipei for 5 years. I was teaching English. I'm back in Canada working my way towards a masters in TESL, then likely back over to Asia somewhere. I got into IEMs because China's megacities were so LOUD. My Westones were a godsend. Great country, but the drivers have no shame when it comes to blaring their horns day and night. At one time I lived in residence in a medical university. The roads around me had large signs asking drivers not to use their horns since there were ill patients trying to rest. It didn't work.

See... the thing is this.
和 does mean harmony. But it is also literally "and"
你和我 literally is "you and I"
See above: conceptually, yes, 和 does mean harmony and peace. But to specifically indicate that meaning, 和平 is the phrase.

Born in Toronto, raised in Hong Kong and in Edm for university.
Complicated enough? haha.I couldn't imagine living in China. Nevermind my disdain for the current culture and political climate there... but generally the pollution (noise and air) is horrific....

Quote:My Chinese is very functional rather than creative and subtle, so your original character 静 may be best if you can only do one character. If you want to do two, one on each side, then 和平 would be cool. It should also be an easy feat for Wizard and his crew since they are based in China. ;)

If you use a mac, then there are several good fonts available if you have Mandarin enabled. Otherwise I can send you some jpgs to check out.

Now I'm dissapointed I didn't go with Chinese characters on my 8.As. Heh. I used to DJ in Taipei under the name 物理 which means physics. But, then again, it would just add more to the cost and I already went all out on the options!

I've done up the two characters with some calligraphy styled fonts I have installed...
Hope this helps.

Actually I'm surprised how many of us Canucks are on this thread tonight. All our southern neighbors must be sleeping off the turkey.
I like your idea JCYC5. You think Heir would demand extra for a different character on each face plate?

DF, if you need better fonts, let me know. 「靜」 would be fine if you only want one word, but just like 「和平」, these words run the risk of sounding very ordinary to people who know Chinese. If I see these words, I only think "silent" and "peace", I don't tend to think deeper just because they're on the faceplate of a CIEM.
It's true that Han characters, whether they're in the iteration of Chinese, Kanji, or Hanja, seem to contain lots of deeper, unspoken meanings, but those sentiments are largely diluted, except for certain words that are reserved for special occasions. All I'm trying to say is that you run the risk of doing the same thing as an Asian clothing company printing, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog." on their T-shirts, believing the scene was from some Aesop's fable rather than a placeholder sentence for typefaces.post #3520 of 764011/26/12 at 11:50pm- DigitalFreak

Tom if you could help me out I would forever be grateful. My ignorance of Kanji and Hanja is showing to the point I'm feeling embarrassed. All I want is a character(s) that would convey the meaning/idea of inner spiritual peace.

I would suggest, that rather than use one word, to use an idiom (成語), and I don't mean like the typical, "Confucius say..." --- that's actually literally just a saying of Confucius. Idioms are normally organized into four letters, but within those four letters contains far larger concepts.
You can use something like this to find the idiom that you want: http://dict.idioms.moe.edu.tw/cydic/index.htm (there's an English version, IIRC)post #3522 of 764011/27/12 at 12:11am- kamikazi
