No details lost AT ALL. Yes, warm sounding but all the details are there... gobs and gobs of detail. But they won't throw every single tiny bit at your eardrums like the Tzar 350 will do. By using what I can only assume are magic powers, The Wizard makes these hit a perfect balance between musical and analytical. You can enjoy the music and just let yourself be carried away, or you can spend hours analyzing the breathing pattern of the bass player. With the 4.Ai, the details are served on a silver platter for you. With the Tzar 350, they're thrown at you.

Does anyone have any recommendations for similar live albums and styles?  As Sorensiim says the sens of space is amazing on this disc.

Black Crowes "Before The Frost.....Until The Freeze" is something I've been listening to a lot lately - all of it was recorded at Levon Helms' home studio in Woodstock back in 2009 before a live audience....worthy of a thorough listen imo. The track "Good Morning, Captain" just rips for days...

Getting ear mold impressions done next week for the 8.A, then I'm ready to order.

I hope they live up to my expectations in getting a portable version of my Bowers & Wilkins speaker setup at home.

The B&W P5 didn't quite deliver.

I was going to reply to that comment as well, but Soren pretty much nailed it. I can only add that the midrange presentation does have some distance to it.... but in a good way. It's not recessed, but rather sounds like it is spaced out farther from the ear than most other CIEMs. It's hard to explain but the sense of "space" is just so well done by the 8.A.

So the $975 for 8.A is with the 25% discount?

 

Has anyone heard both the 1964 Ears V6 and 8.A?

Very few V6 owners at this point, since it just came out. But it is described by 1964 as being more neutral and even handed, so I'd imagine it doesn't really go for the same market as the 8.A anyway.

Oops.. I thought I could substract 25% from the $975 because I saw this price on the website a day before the 25% offer was announced.

Didn't know the original price was higher.

Didn't want to clog up the Tzar 90 & 350 thread, but any more impressions on the rendition 1 amp Soren? Do you have any other protable amps to compare it to? Also other source? At the minute I've only got a Fuze as a portable. Thanks.

The Rendition 1 amp is a bit hard to describe as it does it's job very, very well: It amplifies the signal, cleanly. No distortion, bass boost, treble spike or "warmth" added. Just like my O2 amp it disappears in the signal chain, adding only better control. Compared to the headphone out of my (very, very cabable) DX100 it adds a better sense of space. I feared I'd find myself missing a way to control the gain, but running the 4.Ai as well as the HD650 and Tzar 350 is no problem at all. It just works.

 

Edit: I hope The Wizard changes the diode in the front. The blue one on the beta unit could be used for arch welding I believe. That thing is BRIGHT!
