It'll be a little while before I get them :p  I will only be able to compare to PFE232 and Westone W4R from your list.  I'll be comparing other IEMs as well (UE900 that everyone wants; I'm as interested in this comparison as well :) maybe Aurisonics ASG-1.2 and 3.Ai for sure).  I felt the same way about the one-sided thing.  On head-fi, it either means a lot of hype, or they are really that good.  

 

There are three reviews out.  Hopefully they are of use.  The reviewers are well-respected members on this forum.  I know most of them are able to produce very unbiased reviews.

Ok, let's hope it's the latter. Thanks for the help, and let me know if you ever chance upon that post I was looking for (hope the post wasn't deleted or something...).

No, not that one, though that information is definitely helpful. There was actually half a page of replies to the post I was looking for, and I'm kind of scratching my head at how not just 1, but a series of comments just vanished. (I guess the 3.7 kHz dip is consistent with that frequency response plot of the 4.ai's released by accident, though no official frequency response plots have been released by Heir Audio, so it's debatable how reliable the released one was)

Occam's razor: They're probably in another thread.

I recently upgraded to a Magnus and while I don't notice any great difference in sound, I can say I very much prefer the comfort and build quality. It is a MUCH better cable. I don't get any cable noise (you do with the standard, though not much) and it just feels more solid. It also untangles better.

Considering what we spend on headphones, I'd say its worth the investment.

 

I have views on reviews... if a manufacturer gave the headphones to the reviewer (as keepers) expect a biased view... if they got sent to a reviewer just for a review expect a half-decent review but with a bias to that reviewers preferred brands... the reviews I am interested in are from the people who actually bought the headphones especially if they have the same 'source/s' as you/me.

 

I made my decision after reading Way's 4.A findings in the Walkman Z-Series thread (plus emails), the WM-Z has a huge soundstage & SQ to match so his findings were important to me... Sorensiim's findings with his DX100 also helped (I'm interested in getting one of those but I'll await the MK2-version)... what really sold me on Heir Audio was the in-depth emails I had with The Wizard over CIEM's & IEM's, when a founder goes out of his way to explain the SQ, Soundstage & the pro's and con's of 'customs' that for me is the biggest factor hence my purchase of the 3&4.Ai.

So the $55 "freight prepaid" is the only shipping option available for international customers?

 

yes... I believe.

Turns the 3.Ai into a $355 earphone. I guess nothing can be done. 

 

unless you buy both the 3.Ai & 4.Ai then you save yourself $55... two for one

I could do that, but the 3.Ai seems like a better choice if I am only going to have one and I only want one until I end up going for the 8.A's.

 

Good suggestion though! 

You get them yet?  I'm very interested to see how you like them.  I just recently put together a new SPC cable for them and really like it.  It's a balanced cable to a 6pin Mini-XLR that terminates into either an Oyaide 3.5mm or a 6.35mm Furutech plug in Single Ended.  Now I need to find a balanced amp and source so I can build the rest of the cable pieces (and a 10' extension to my home stereo setup).
