You just spent quite a lot of money on headphones that, at a minimum, you are going to have to wait a month or more to get. If you are unsure about your impressions it might be worth getting new ones, if only for peace of mind.
 
The more expensive toys I buy the more I realize it's worth the money to just get the spend the extra where necessary, to get the upgrades, and splurge just a little. The difference tends to come back to you in terms of quality and longevity in a way that can't easily be matched simply by saving money the first time around.
 
Which is, as it happens, why I just bought a Magnus-1 for my 4.A's. On a related note, the fine folks a Heir Audio are awesome to deal with.

I went with my gut feeling, emailed more pictures of different angles as I wasn't to happy about the blemishes and slight void. She quickly answered all emails and said the right impression wasn't good enough, I'm happy for now but well see how it goes next week.

I was worried that with the 8.A's BA drivers I would miss the low-end thump from my FS Atrios and UM Merlins (dynamic drivers in both). The wizard told me not to worry, the 8.A will give you all the bass that's in the music. That last bit is important. On some tracks I was disappointed, as the Merlins & Atrios had made me believe there was far more bass than there really was when listening to them on the 8.A. But the wizard was right... Right now I'm listening to Deadmau5' new album <Album Title Goes Here> (boy that must freak out online stores!) and on tracks like "Maths" I can feel the bass and see my eyeballs vibrating, just like with the Atrios. And on top of matching the insane bass levels (when required) the 8.A beat every single other IEM I have ever tried when it comes to midrange, treble, details and soundstage. 

 

In a way I feel almost sad to have reached the end of my gear journey with the DX100 -> Magnus 1 -> 8.A rig but by Jove, what an end!

Fun.

 

The Merlins are unapologetically fun headphones. Forward mids and highs with a slamming bas from the dynamic driver. When I listen to Rage Against The Machine or Combichrist and just want to rock out or have my eardrums blown in, the Merlins are great for that. 

 

However, my listeing mostly takes place at work, for 6-8 hours at a time while I work (duh). The 8.A's less agressive presentation makes it far more suitable for this task while still being able to do punchy, fun, music. They also beat the Merlins when it comes to detail and depth. This means that while I enjoyed the Merlins, I knew they would get a lot less ear-time than the 8.A. I would have loved to keep both, but my wallet wasn't too happy about that.

My 3.Ai & 4.Ai's arrived today tongue_smile.gif... but there's now another 'but' I can't listen to them apart from via a pc which isn't desirable so I'll have to wait a week before listening to them properly.

 

lent my WM-Z to my Sister to go on holiday with (she prefers it to her iPhone), she aint back till next Tuesday confused_face.gif

 

first impression... these are pure class to look at, well impressive craftmanship.

How comes you've got only one Z? I remember you buying half a dozen! biggrin.gif

Anyway, ordered a 4Ai today. Wizard said he might be able to post it by Friday. keeping my fingers crossed.
