Alright, so I've got a challenge on my hands that I'm wondering if any of you guys can help.
I've noticed that in all myriad music I've listened to, whenever I look at their audio spectral graphs, they always fall into two camps without fail:
1. "D shaped". Prominent bass yet strong vocals with some treble thrown around with occasional spikes. Typical of the trance, electro-pop, IDM, some indie rock and hip hop I listen to
2. "A shaped". Vocals are the focus with potent bass and treble surrounding it. Most of my rap, indie-pop, indie rock, and acoustic pop performances
Now I know that maybe a contradiction in tastes, but I guess that's just my brain telling me what to like. I currently have a Senn 598 but decide that it doesn't really do #1 much justice, though its very good at #2. I have ~$200-220 budget for an upgrade, and am fine with both open and closed headphones, the caveat being that they must be good with BOTH camps above.
What say you, fellow Headfiers? Anyone with the guts to suggest something that could satisfy both extremes?
Also, listening from my laptop, full lossless files. No amp, and would prefer a phone that don't need one like my 598s.
