Hi, Im looking at buy the 518's or the 448's. I mostly listen to them at home on my computer with an amp, but i might want to take them in the car ocasionally. Are the 518's sound quality much better than the 448? The soundstage should be better cause the 518's are open, but are they worth $50 more? Also, if you have any suggestions for other headphones in this price range ($50 - $100) that would be great!

Best closed headphones I had heard - very flat response, almost no midrange distortion, very easy to drive (good for portable), good soundstage (definately better than K240), good isolation, but...

Overall excellent buds, very good sound quality, especially for their price, the medium set of tips fits exactly in my ears and provides a near perfect seal. Bass is very detailed, but not...

I'll keep this very short. They are very smooth sounding. Treble toned down so not so good for rock but have a magic about them that makes them better than mark 2. I use them with a '89/'90...

They have different sound, depends what you want. I think the 448s might be slightly better in clarity for mids and highs but really lack bass. The 518 might not be as clear (not sure, could be the same) but have a satisfying amount of bass as well.

Unless you need some noise isolation I would go with the open headphones. The HD518s should also be more comfortable to wear than the HD448s. I think the HD448s would sound much more mid-centric and its airy treble is quite nice, but its bass definition definitely lacks a bit.
ok thanks a lot! i think that im probably going to go with the 518's
