Does Sennheiser IE8 require an amp?

Thread Starter

I'm looking to buy the IE8 to pair it with an iPod Touch and my cellphone (Nokia N9). I'll also use it with my macbook. What I want to know is whether I need an amp to drive these or will without amp do just fine. I know an amp will obviously help but is IE8 the kind of IEM that 'needs' an amp to drive it like the Etymotic ER4S does?

I don't think so.

IE8 does not benefit from an amp. A USB-DAC could be usefull on your laptop, so you could always get a DAC/AMP and test it out for yourself.

I reckon they might open up in the mids with a decent amp like this:

(they went to the moon with less hardware ...)

Details, details - dude, I am an ideas man - I leave the implementation to others. Gotta fly - got a meeting with Branson at 11, then lunch with Trump at 1.   wink.gif
