I have an uncle that dabbles in audio, but is relatively uninformed in hi-fi.
tl;dr, he gave me a great set of bookshelves, whilst spending more to 'upgrade' to a generic set of JBL floorstanders, that were obviously inferior. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
In any case, he gave me a set of Jungson BD-2, the OEM version of the Grant Fidelity MBS-1 (http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue46/grantfidelity_mbs1.htm).
I intend to run a computer-based rig, through a HRT Music Streamer II, and an integrated amplifier.
Looking around locally, I narrowed it down to:
used Marantz PM-17 (the original) for the equivalent of US$310 - I am leaning towards this.
used NAD C320BEE for US$170
new Cambridge Audio Topaz MA10 for the same price as the PM-17.
Of course, I am open to any good integrated >=50W under US$350. It doesn't matter new or used. Thanks in advance!
By the way, running it through a generic DVD player and generic Marantz receiver from 2002, the mids are seductive. Sound like the LCD-3, but less coloured, no black background, and a tad less resolving.
