ATH PRO700MK2 vs. Ultrasone DJ1??

Hi, I am deciding between the ATH-PRO700MK2s and the Ultrasone DJ1s (same as the hfi-580s right?)

I would use this headphone that I would use for daily leisure, and my price range is $200 max.  Lack of sound leakage and durability is definitely a huge factor in choosing a headphone, with comfort being a plus (I would probably wear it for a maximum of 2 hours a day?)

I currently own an ATH-M50, which I love with all my heart, but I found it a bit lacking in terms of overall bass quantity.  Generally, I listen to house, dubstep and electronic music, as well as rap and hip hop.

I've heard both positives and negatives about both headphones, what do you think Head-Fi? Thanks.

Heya,

Well, going from M50 to DJ1 (HFI 580) you will not be getting an appreciable difference for the cost. The PRO700MK2 on the other hand is more bassy, but it too, may not be a truly appreciable difference for the cost. It should definitely have more quantity of bass, but the quality of said bass may not be up to snuff (a bit muddy?). Look at reviews on the PRO700MK2 to see if it sounds like what you're after.

At this point, the only way to go truly bassier, with an appreciable change, is going to be a few more expensive headphones, or playing around with things like the Digizoid ZO/ZO^2. Maybe just try and enhance the M50's you already have.

Otherwise, I would try something like the Beyer DT770 PRO with a Digizoid ZO^2. It's over your budget by like $70 if you bought everything new. But it would be very durable, very comfortable, huge bass, and great isolation.

If you want to stay on a budget, the Sony XB500 will give you more bass than the M50 (and the above headphones) in quantity and in some ways quality. But it's durability is a little less. It's a cheap way to maximize bass though.

Very best,

Thanks malveaux.  I've looked into the XB500 before, and if my two choices aren't that big of an improvement over the m50, then I guess I'll go with the sony instead.
