HD 800 need's a $1000 +/- amp

Thread Starter

I am tired dragging my amps from country house to apartment to office to god knows where. I think I should finally invest into a secondary full-size amp for my little HD's. What amp would you recommend?

I had a lake people violectric one before as a side amp before I sold it, so I want to try something different, maybe a tube amp?

Based on looks (don't bash me, I know thats a horrible way to judge amps) the Woo WA6 seems interesting, I also heard alot of positive stuff about the eee its blue its factory direct im trying to remember whats the name eee DNA Sonet? (or Sonett) Im on mobile internet google doesn't seem to work.

So yeah whats the best bang for the buck in the $1000 +/- region?

People have reported that the Eddie Current Super 7, with the correct tubes, is 90% as good as a Balancing Act.  The introductory price was $1300 but that period ended at the end of October, so if Craig is still accepting orders, it'll be more expensive.

Regardless, given my experience with the BA+HD800, a near-BA in the mid-$1-2k range would possibly be one of the biggest steals I have seen on Head-Fi.

Amps I've tried that I'd recommend:

Tube: Woo Audio WA2. Decware CSP2+. SS: Violectric V200.

Love the Toronto raccoon...yep, they are out of control here aren't they?

There still might be a Rockhopper B22 on sale in the F/S forum for under $1k...an absolute steal if it's still available. Other than that, the WA2 or WA6SE are both great tube options IMO.
