NEW Sony Walkman Z Series mini review!!! - Page 255

So this is great, my 1060 is bricked, was listening to some music when the player just powered off (reset switch does nothing), and cannot be powered back on again, had a full charge at the time, purchased May 2012.

Just raised this issue with Sony Support.

hope this doesn't happen to anyone else..

Ouch, no idea if the following is any help after a quick google :-

Thanks David, I tried all the tricks posted by Sony, nothing brings it back to life, well, I did manage to bring it back for about a day, by taking off the back, removing the battery and replacing it, although not sure if this was just a coincidence (the battery showed an 80% charge on boot up).

The second time it failed (the next day), I tried the same but to no avail, the player powered off when I unplugged the headphones, again might be a coincidence, or maybe the walkman powered off to prevent a static charge or something due to the headphone jack leaving the socket...who knows...:confused_face(1):

bit rubbish that a player of this cost/standard so easily fails...meantime my RH1 (minidisc) recorder is doing fine...

Edit: Sounds a bit like the Xperia Z "Sleep of Death" issue, I'll try some of the recommended workarounds.

somewhere in here is the problem..:

Sony support say:

"Thank you for contacting Sony support regarding your Sony NWZ-Z1060 walkman . We are sorry to learn about the issue that you are encountering.

Initially, we would recommend resetting the factory settings of the walkman by pressing the reset button with a small thin object.

If the issue was not resolved, please be advised that this product is what Sony describes as an 'IWX' product. This term describes a product that is not economic to repair if it fails, and is therefore classified as an 'in warranty exchange' item during the one year guarantee period.

In the event that an IWX product fails during the guarantee, it must be returned to the supplying retailer for examination/exchange. If out of warranty, we recommend that you purchase a new one.

I am sorry I cannot be of greater assistance on this occasion; however I hope that my e-mail has gone some way to clarifying this matter."

So, I'm going super basic, no touch screen, no mucking about for my next dap....just got to find one..

Hopefully this is a one off and everyone else's Z walkman last more than 1.5 years.

Since its an old product and discontinued over a year its highly unlikely you are going to get a newer one. Since you mentioned it powered back on after replacing the battery and then it shut down, it could be a loose contact around the battery???. Have you dropped the player anytime?

what i like about sony is the clearaudio+. the sound becomes alive, powerful, punchy and speaker like. i can't even think about listening without clearaudio+ on.

Oh sure, would never expect to get a replacement for free, could be the battery, visibly all connections look totally fine, no obvious areas of failure, and yes the player has been dropped a few times, but not so bad that there are any marks on the player, but I suppose gravity shock could be an issue. I'll play with the battery connections, see how far I get.

Other than this issue, the guts of the z1060 look well constructed, the chassis looks die cast and most areas of obvious failure (headphone socket/battery etc), look serviceable/replaceable (despite Sony's attitude of not wanting to repair). - If only we could buy spare parts...

Sansa Clip Plus or Zip would seem to fit the bill, or a fiio of some description if you want to step up.

Exactly, quite a step away from the Z1060, but I've got a Clip+ lying around somewhere, btw, don't let my post put anyone off the 1060, it is an awesome DAP, sound quality is fanastic along with the versatility of Android/wireless internet acess etc, hard to go wrong really.

Have you tried the F807 walkmans? They are a cheaper alternative to what the Z cost but they are discontinued too. You're best bet will be waiting for CES 2014 and hopefully they will announce F887 & ZX-1 walkmans. I'm pretty sure F887 will be released this side of the pond but it may take time to actually show up for sale on Sony and other authorized dealers sites.

Till then, since you have already opened the Z dont let it go. Sony walkmans are built to last. It may be a simple problem and need some one who you may know with some electronic expertise.

I've also had a problem with my Z. The screen kind of flickered badly whenever I slid the brightness notch to the extreme right. On <half brightness it was less noticeable. So, despite being a Sony fan, I think Sony aren't keeping up with the standards. Also, there is no way of reviving a soft-bricked Walkman like there is on many other Android phones.

That'll be the Samsung parts :p, mixing Japanese and South Korean parts will never be a happy match :) (for those who know the strange political relationships between Japan and South Korea)

The F series look great, but after being stung (although may be my fault), I've opted for a cheaper Sony, just got the NWZ-E585, it is ridiculously small compared to the Z, and sounds pretty good, plus the Fiio LOD works with it too, but I miss my Z - I'm definately going to get this working again, I don't part with great things easily.

On searching for a replacement battery, the product name is "US404261 A10T", problem is they come in minimum batches of 100,000, from China, so if anyone needs 99,999 batteries, let me know

Now you have identified the appropriate part maybe you could get in touch with Sony support to see if they could sell you one singly perhaps?

the WM-Z is back on my shopping-list... I knew I'd regret parting with it.
