Well...I think you have a defective Japanese Z unit as well.  All of my players (A, F, S, X, and Z Walkman) have identical volume level at the same attenuation.  The A, S, and X go from 1 to 30 level, while the

Andriod units stop at 30 clicks.  I'm sorry man, but I really think that your unit is defective.  How about getting it service?  Does your Jap Z sound the same as Euro Z?

I do not think that my Japanese "Z" defective! because I bought a new one!
Series "A" ,"X" and diugie sound louder at times but have a narrower bass.

Something strange... Yes Euro S are not so loud, but even new E have a good volume levels.
I've wrote couple of pages ago about Euro and East Euro versions. So now i think that i've got Eastern Europe version because when i've heard Jap X it was having the same power and volume levels.

As for example, one year ago friend's X was easily playing Vsonic R07 (which are not easy to drive and to get a good result), but my S not, very poor and quiet.

Also as i know Jap Sony called NW-Z (A,S,E,etc), others NWZ-Z

Even I bought mine brand new. Still, it is defective (the screen flickers like hell on high brightness), but I'm not going about complaining and telling people not to buy it coz it definitely delivers in the sound department. These are the hard realities of life, learn how to live through them :-P

The best Walkman can't be bad.

Kvud, Give us a break please! Yours is not defective because it's new! So you've never had a DOA product? Never had a LCD screen, brand new with dead pixels? So no new product gets past QA without a problem. This is not a realistic position Kvud!

Everyone else around here says their A, X, Z and S sound about the same volume except Euro model. But your Z is working properly because it's NEW, so by definition, ours are all faulty because they have TOO MUCH VOLUME? As Devine33 said... Return it for Warranty! If you don't want to, then it's your problem.

Frankly, I am sick of your rants and took offence when you posted a derogatory comment about my decision to sell my Z suggesting I supported your view. I DON'T and my reason for selling is not relevant to you. As it happens, I have too many music sources and am selling because it makes sense to sell while there is some value to another member.

Having formerly enjoyed this forum topic, I'm disappointed to see it reduced to its current state by what seems like simple trolling by one individual - I am not a natural poster on forums (indeed. I have a much smaller post count than the complainer) but I do like to read something enlightening and informative about a device I have and enjoy.

To open the topic regularly and find some sort of variation of "this player sounds like *****" really does make me wonder whether I shouldn't be spending my time more wisely.

I entirely understand the language barrier thing, but it seems to me that this one guy has enough English to have made his one point adequately and to have repeated it more than once over quite a period of time.

Sorry this post isn't that enlightening or informative and I guess it could also be troll-feeding - but I like the Walkman Z and I like Head-Fi and I'd like to carry-on enjoying both.

Rant over biggrin.gif.

Cheers,

Andy

Okay, getting back to the topic. Purk, you have both, right? Could you please disable the 'sound enhancements' app on both the F & the Z and compare the output from the two?

If the output is the same, then maybe we could port the F's app to the Z and get the same sound signature :)

So why i don't like WM-Z is that he can't naturally playing hard metal music. Some tracks are ok, but mostly not. Another genres and we have no problems, very good.
Also phones question... It is not easy to make a good synergy. Thinking about top-tier Audio-Technica IEMs, but now some problems in budget.

I also listen to metal (slipknot) but have no such problems.
It all comes down to your cans. Get grado if possible, they are pretty good with metal music.

Hmmm... Metal... Don't listen to it much lately, but you might consider Yamaha EPH-100s. An underrated dynamic earphone which is also quite comfortable. Good solid bass and reasonably priced. Alternately, I mostly listen to my Z with Westones UM3X. They are very easily driven by the Z and cater for just about every genre.

Owned SR80 and listened to 225 and 325

GR07 better for it

I was owned them and they are my favourite phones for now.

Everything is good, but not with Sony. Any Sony. Guitars like harsh, like dzhdzhdzh, so untruely, but solo guitars are ok, no bad words, only good.
Yes, Slipknot, Sepultura, All Shall Perish, etc. I like them, but even iPod are better with this music, but not with all another.

I also listen to mostly heavy music, and perhaps because of this I do not like the "Z"
