I doubt they can make a case for something like this, otherwise the warranty would not mention anything about 3rd party repair services voiding it lol.  They are acknowledging services by stating they void the warranty, thus legally the do not have much room for a case.

Anyways, if its something that enough people are interested in I'll pry open my Walkman Z.  Otherwise I'd like to keep my Z boxed or at least looking new, the first guy to open his device is usually the one left with the most marks.

Think like this; You'd be doing a great job for the whole of humanity :P
Just GO GO GO!!! (Y)

No need to pry anything open, there are pics of the inside here; http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68564

After installing a leaked official Jelly Bean rom to my Xperia S, the sound became on par in quality of that of the Walkman Z. New Walkman app, more responsive, faster. Bass became punchier and more accurate. It sounds fuller, whereas in previous updates it was kinda thin and not so melodic. Before, it tended to sound very congested on many tracks, not anymore.

Really, sound quality is superb from my Sennheiser Momentum on this Jelly Bean official rom. It really feels as if they totally reworked the audio engine/drivers.

Good news for the Z owners & those who want one.

They're back on the US Sony website... but only the 32gb is available for now.

So they're not yet discontinued but it looks like they dont come with the new update (acc. to website specs) but I could be wrong.

Frankly the quality from the HP output is very good and have not felt the need to use a DAC or amp. If you're looking for super SQ from a DAC/amp, you'd probably use a better source anyway. The Z is all about portability.

Re the 8gb Z1040; it is too small as some of that 8gb gets used up by the OS. 16gb is far more useful or even better I bought a 64gb from Japan I was so impressed with the Z. With the 8 you'll probably find yourself needing to stream from a DLNA source or Internet source.
between of 32 GB and the Japanese version, there is a difference in sound? I have a 32GB version of the Z on, but I lack the Bass, I listen with headphones sennheiser ie8.Design by Aiwan (www.kolobok.wrg.ru)

Is your unit a European Z?  Lacking in bass is not what the Z is known for.  I used to have the US & Japanese Z and I found the bass reproduction to be a bit much for my taste.  Your ie8 should already be one of the bassier IEMs around.

I got a Japanese Z and find the Bass both in quantity and quality to be perfect for my taste. That is without ICS though which update I found to be lacking in the bass department..

If I understand you correctly, you have the regular version before buying the Japanese, and the Japanese version has more powerful Basso? than usual for the 32GB version?

Japanese version has no volume limit unlike the European Z, ICS is the Android software update which became available last December which I found had a negative impact on the Z's soundquality.

I think the Sony engineers who developed the Z optimized the hardware/soundchip for the original Gingerbread Android software. This optimization got lost a bit in my view after the update(eg lacking in Bass, sharp highs, less mids...) or was done on purpose to get a more Ipod like mainstream sound who knows..

Most likely I have the European version, written on the box nwz-z1060/bc-1, I found in a box "European guarantee" I updated the firmware 2.00.0006, and after the firmware, I plays flac files.

When I first received my NA unit the System Information was all in Japanese, after an update it was English.  Anyone else experience this?
