No, by Xperia S, I mean Xperia S. Sony's integration of Phone and Walkman.

only £225 if you buy from USA and import to UK (32gb) and it hasn't got the dreaded 'European volume cap'... Sony has confirmed on Facebook that the Walkman warranty is valid in UK if you get from another Country ie USA/Canada.
They have also said on Facebook that the Z-Series supports 'FLAC' files.... this is from Sony's UK Product Manager.
That's a great price, where did you get quoted £225 ? I'm looking at NYBOX.
I was expecting the Z to be good , but not that good, SONY has done its homework sound wise. My only complain is the absence of flac support.
Ahh, I'm sold... my wallet is so light it's starting to levitate !
on Sony's USA website... it's on at $329 = £225... if you use NYBox you can dictate the amount they put on customs forms... $50 is the max to avoid VAT & import taxes, Don't know if I'll use NYBox or a friend in Canada, by the end of next week I'll order.
Apparently it does support 'FLAC' files according to Sony's Product Manager.... see it in the Sony Walkman thread, ask him how if you can't find a way to do/find FLAC-files be interesting to see his answer.
Ahh I didn't know that Sony Xperia Nozomi is being called Xperia S now.
My Xperia Ray contract will end in Aug this year. Am debating if I should join back the iPhone club or move up the Xperia chain.
I think they meant by a third party app like poweramp. Not the native player of SONY.
Prove me wrong and I will be very happy, thanks

I can confirm to you as a quick review that the J3 is less detailed more digital, instrument separation is better on the SONY but this is with wave. I am using the SONY stock software player, I know other players like Neutron and Poweramp can play other formats, but I want to get the best of the hardware, and I think Sony with its player is better. Bass on the Sony is good, but the T51 is better, in that its punchier and more refined, Its a bit muddy with some tracks, have to give it some time.
Now my collection on the SONY is Atracplus 352, because of the IDtag $tupid bug. The Sony Drive my BEY 1350 much better than the J3, to be honest J3 is dead for me , I just like its interface.
The Sony is double the weight of J3. J3 UI is easier and better suited to search and navigate different music formats, not supported on a Sony Walkman. J3 with its BBE ,etc effects brings to life..but....
The Sony player is my next favorite DAP now.
Ahh, I think you just sold me on waiting Sony Z series to be available at my country. I was very very close to getting a Cowon J3. I'm hoping it won't be that expensive :D
only quoting what the Sony guy said... why don't you ask him, he's the Product Manager... I'm just a humble customer.

Hello headfiers! Well I would like to start by saying I've lurked around here for a while. Everytime I decide to buy new audio related gear I do a little research online and this site has been of great help to me. Well I think it's time to give something back to this comunity, by doing a little review of a new player I just bought. So here it is:
I opted for the 64 GB version, black color...
The black bezel is actually made of metal, probably aluminum, it feels solid and sturdy.
The touchscreen is made of glass, don't know if it's gorilla glass but it seems strong.
The back of the unit is blue, build quality seems good, but no removable cover, so the battery is not user replaceable.
Here you can see the HDMI port, the W walkman button with wich you can instantly access playback controls.
The bottom of the unit, with the headphone jack, the walkman proprietary connector, and a slot for adding a handstrap.
The headphones that came with it are pretty good, they have inbuilt noise cancelling, but i replaced them with my own set.
My "semi portable" setup! LOL
The user interface is pretty standard Android gingerbread fare, albeit a very smooth one thanks to the Tegra 2 chip i think. There are some sony branded stuff as expected, such as W.Music, Video Player, and Sony Music App, but no major change to the Android experience.
Now for the most important part, and what actually inspired me to come out from the lurking shadows to post this: the sound quality!
Owning an iPad 2 and having owned a iPod touch 4G, I can safely say that these devices don't come close to the SQ put out by this little gem. It's emotional, detailed and a pure joy to listen to. It's really the best SQ I've heard in a portable device. Even better than my old Walkman A855, wich was my portable source up until now. The headphone out jack is pretty good for those times when i need more portability, better than my iPad with an external amp in my opinion. But plug in an external amp through a LOD and it really shines! Hearing some of my old tunes I can hear details I didn't know were there. It's amazing really!
I did some side by side comparisons with my iPad 2, all effects turned off. There was no doubt, the Walkman was the clear winner. Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Apple or it's products, for instance I think nothing beats the iPad 2 for web browsing and watching videos, but nothing beats the walkman for music.

The price on Amazon is the imported price from Japan (the Japanese model) so the price will be extremely inflated.
When this Walkman is officially released in the US, Amazon will start to carry the US model and the price could be lower than that on the Sony US online store.
Hope that helps =)
If anyone in the US wants the 64gb version, they'll have to import from Japan though. At least the menu can be set to English this time.
I want one of these and the iBasso DX100!!!

Thanks about this! Is the U.S. model same as the Japan, I mean the functionally?? And Sony web says pre-order will shiped around March 1st?
Looks the same though but like what cn11 has said, US won't be carrying the 64gb version.
