Found some old stuff of my dad's, was wondering if it was any good?

He left me some Rotel gear - 

 

855 CD Player

850 Preamp / Radio

870BX Amp

 

I'm not sure if I could use these for headphones, I think there's a jack on the front of the preamp. Should I keep this equipment or look for something else. I have some Sennheiser HD515 headphones and planned to get a Fiio E7 for Christmas, although at this point I'm not sure if I should get the E7 or just get some new headphones.

Hey, your 870BX amp looks like this, right?

You should totally hook up the CD player and amp, and test it out. The jack on the front is for headphones anyway, so what have you got to lose?

 

I don't think the preamp will be useful without a turntable.

The amp only has a single button on the front (power), the preamp is where the headphone jack is located.

It says Stereo Amp, not sure if it is the older version of what you have there?

 

The bottom piece here is what I have, along with a larger version of the middle one (three rows of the numbered buttons on the right). My headphone jack is on the left side of the Stereo Tuner.

Found a picture of preamp.

 

I'm not really sure of what to make of all the stuff, I figure I should just buy my own gear in order to figure out the hobby.

Gee, that's odd. Well if it says "Phones" you're good to go plugging the 515's in.
