new senn HD 600!

Guys,

Please help me out, as i'm nowhere near an audiophile and have no conception what is "right" and what is "wrong".

How do I know that these cans are working properly? Music definitely sounds very good, but my comparable is a pair of 10 year old computer speakers so my reference point is biased. Also, I don’t have an amp, so I’m not sure how much of this is due to the headphones, or not even power being driven thru by my computer.

These are my major concerns
1. I was playing music at the loudest volume for a short period of time, unaware that prior to “burnin” that this could damage the headphones
2. I was listening to some classical music, and at the highest notes, there was a lot of fuzz and static, even though I was playing FLAC version of the song. when i listened to this portion on my computer speakers, i did not notice the fuzz and static.

These are other points to consider
1. No amp
2. i am plugging my headphones into the green headphone jack on my computer. does it matter if it is the front (the motherboard) or if it is directly connected to the sound card?
3. i hear white noise when i plug in the headphones and no music is playing...that can't be right, yet i don't know how to fix it.

So, how do I know that this is a headphone issue, an amp issue, or something above?

Thanks

Don't worry about breaking them with volume prior to any type of burn-in. That really won't damage the headphone unless you're running it through an amp at high gain while also playing stress-test level sounds like a constant frequency sweep or something for a while.

Avoid plugging into the front headphone port. They often have poor electrical grounding and will be horribly fuzzy. If you're plugging directly into the sound card, it should be better. If there is still issues with static and fuzzy, you'll need to buy some kind of USB DAC to bypass your computer's poorly grounded internal sound card. It's probably a grounding issue inside of your computer that is causing the static.
