New amp required, help needed.

Hi. Some time ago I purchased a Little Dot MK III headphone amp new off ebay through the authorised dealer on there (David?).  Anyways, although being happy with the sound quality of the amp (when it's working) I've decided a change is in order.  To cut a long story short 6 driver tubes and 6 power tubes later (which have ended up costing me what the amp did) I've decided constant messing around with valves is not for me and want to go the solid state route.  I mainly listen to electronica so a strong bass response is important, budget is £150 and will be used with D-2000's.  Suggestions please!

The Asgard looks nice but it's not available in the UK.

I also have Denon D2ks,biggrin.gif and I re-cabled them with mogami 2534 to run balanced into my Little Dot MKVII+(as well as my matching LD DAC_1), and the sound is impressive, authoritative, very good solid deep thumping bass, as well as a very smooth, detailed top end, not to mention the mids are very strong as well.  I would say, for the price ($389+ship) if I remember correctly, it is a very, very good investment. It is, I think, still the cheapest way to get into balanced. That is not to say it's a cheap amp, it is very nice, and I have been lovin' on mine for a few years now.  Please take into account that I am not nearly as experienced as many of the head-fier's in here.

Others with more experience may want to chime in...popcorn.gif

However, I realize that you aren't talking about balanced at this point. If you are a diy'er, you may want to consider making a cable for yourself and going balanced, as it is a quite a difference: the sound stage just opens up, imaging is much sharper, as if you pull the veil off of them, imho. The best way I know to describe the difference is it is like removing the "veil" from the phones. Not that they are "veiled" to start out with, but when comparing the SE vs.  balanced, they sound that way.

It took me a few hours to get used to the change from single ended to balanced.  It was almost overwhelming for the first few songs, but then my ears adjusted, and now, I don't think I can go back to SE, lol.biggrin.gif

But, I digress. If you want solid state, there are many more options out there, as I am sure you will find out from the replies you get. I just wanted to give you one person's positive experience with this amp & phone combo. I also thought it might be worth explaining a little bit about my personal set up.

I hope this helps,

Matt
