This website has very different graphs for those headphones.

does anyone have a k240 that they would let me audtion for a week or so? i will pay shipping both ways, and take full responsibility for them. if anything were to happen, you could expect a brand new pair. i can send shipping money via pay pal.

i currently have the hd598 and want to do a head to head comparison

please pm me if possible, you would be a saviour if so!

You can buy the superlux HD681B its a copy from K240 for 20 euros or 35$ on amazon :).

HD598 is better than K242HD imo.

thanks, didnt even realize, but im hoping someone will be kind enough to lend me theirs. after buying these hd598 i dont have any money left tongue.gif

the hd598 are very neutral, flat and also show the true color of the recording, which is good, but im finding them to be very mid-centric, and i would prefer balanced > mid-centric. the vocals are either on the same "level" or above the instruments and when lots is going on, the instruments arent as loud as i would want them to be (espeically the drums)

when i had the k240 i remember them being more "balanced" (slightly v shaped) and i liked their sound signature more. though they were minorly v shaped, they were still accurate and neutral enough to reveal the recordings for what they are, and also made the instruments more pronounced, unlike the senn's whos vocals i feel arent recessed enough. brightness isnt an issue, the cymbals sound crystal clear to me and placed well

i dont know what is it with the hd598, its not that they are bass light, when i listen to rap or bass heavy tracks with 808 drops etc., the hd598 reaches low enough (for me) with good impact, and has outstanding texture and detail to the bass (the mids and highs are just as detailed as well). more than enough bass for me, or so it seems, but then when i switch to a heavy rock/metal song, the drums get lost when lots is going on, unless im listening very closley and i really dont like that

before i return/sell the hd598 for a k240, im worried im going to loose a lot of detial and texture that the hd598 is offering me, thats why i want to compare head to head.

Wouldn't it be less expensive to buy a pair from a dealer with free shipping and return them if you don't like them for a full refund?

Plenty of dealers offer that.

And if you like them, obviously, you'd have them in your possession & could just keep them...

Either we are looking at different graphs, or you are not clear on how to read these charts.  Sure, I guess you could call the 280 'more extended' at the extremes than the V6, but that's really just a huge hump from 10-50hz, and a (largely inaudible for most listeners) dip above 16k.  For the heart of the spectrum, 50-6k, the Sony is MUCH flatter.

FWIW, the V6 graph is basically the same, but missing that high end dip.

To bmeat, I'd suggest you try out the V6/7506 for a bit longer.  There is a reason these have been such a hit for so long.

i have the hd598 right now, and although they are very accurate, they are known for not doing well with heavy rock and metal, and i listen to a lot of that. they are extremly flat, and sometimes thin sounding, much like the k701/702. im trying to borrow someones k240 for about a week to head to head compare, if anyone is willing

i purchased some k240 velous pads, and the hole that our ear fits into is smaller than the leather ones that came with the k240studio. why is this? do they sell velour pads with the big hole instead?
