Heir Audio 3.A Review of the "Woody" Custom. - Page 5

Bass slam would be how punchy the Bass sounds, how hard the Bass hits you, this had more to do with the mid-Bass. Is that clearer for you?

Once again I'll refrain from comparing the 2 since I don't own nor heard nor seen the 4.A. Although, Sinocelt would likely reply to you soon.

So you mean like bass impact?

I find it a bit confusing because I listened to all the UM demo units and I consider the UM Mage the most bass-light of them all, quite easily.

Yup bass impact! Apologies for the confusion!

I think you might have had a bad demo.. Here's something to think about, Spekkio tried the UM miracle demo, found the bass diminished to his liking, bought a pair and found them to have unbearably overpowering bass!

With demos I like to ensure what I'm hearing is similar to what I read or hear from actual owners.

Sorry, but I don't have the Mage, so I can't compare it to the A.4. redface.gif

@kiteki - besides I don't think looking at the drivers of both units would give you any idea of how they'll sound like. Drivers can be tuned to sound like almost anything! What's important is to ensure the sound signature is to your preference.

I can't ensure that because your views are so vastly different than mine on the UM Mage, bass heavy, harshness and plaster wall etc., so I'm a bit skeptical of your comparison part, like you're favoritising the 3.A, but it's possible one of ours was broken lol.

The important part is the Wizard has displayed some really fine craftsmanship, and this looks like a steal for $349, so I'm considering it as my next custom IEM but I have no idea how it sounds so I need to research stuff like drivers and crossovers.

UM have all the drivers they use listed on their site btw.

How is the 3.A signature ? close to any of the universal you mentioned ?
as you picked up almost alot of the universals

Where did he mention universals?  His profile only says Shure e3c.

Anyway I like the "mid-centric" and "rawness" descriptions and I really like the looks of these but feel like I need to know more.

Hmm how much extra is wood btw, and are those cables you have from Heir?

What I heard of the Mage is consistent with what I read at least with regards to the bass quantity. After all it was marketed as the bass heavy entry level model.

Sure take your time! One man's review is one man's opinion after all =)

w|tch my review should be quite adequate in describing the sound signature. If I was pushed to give you a specific answer in comparing with a universal, I'd say in between the tf10 and the se535. I think I was quite precise and did not name more than 4 universals so I'm quite puzzled where your confusion is.

Once again wood costs 150 extra with 50 extra per inlay.

And the stock cable was provided by Heir Audio, the rest were made by me.

Universals were mentioned at the end as a rough guide to those with only access to universals, based on the universals I've heard and liked.

Sorry for the confusion then,

I read through your review and you mentioned those universals at the end kinda confuse me whether which one was the ''closer' sound signature

Thanks for the clarification, might give 3.A a consideration if i'm getting a CIEM :D

No worries.

The sound signature can't be completely the same as one of the top tier universals. I won't review a custom against a universal. Fit and cables would be different and thus won't be a fair comparison.

After spending a few hours with the 3.a, i can definitely see where you're coming from. Their is a slightly elevated bass and it doesn't have quite the treble detail as my full sized akg cans. However the vocals really impressed me and were very well presented. Overall these are very enjoyable to listen to.

Maybe ill go into greater detail later, but this is what i gathered after spending half a day with them.

Give yourself a few days, brain/equipment burn-in works on whatever level and just getting the hang of customs often leads to a slightly better sound.

Going to order the 3.A too, how long did your impressions get held up at customs? I'm hoping to get mine done before CNY, not sure if it's doable now though...
