This is my first post on Head-Fi, but I've been lurking for a while now. I am entering the whole high-fi audio world so bear with my "newbieness".
So here is my story, I've been lurking for a bassy headset compared to my Logitech G930s, which had decent bass but I felt I could improve. So after quite a bit of research I figured the Sony MDR-XB700 were a good choice for me both financially and based upon the reviews. However, Newegg is out of stock (I have a few coupons for Newegg, so I don't mind waiting) for a week or so. So, I went to Best Buy and bought the Sony MDR-XB500 to get a general sense of what the XB700s would sound like.
To the best of my ability I compared my Logitech G930 and the XB500s. The XB500s definitely has a bit more bass (but I still don't feel that whole punch, maybe I just hyped the headphones in my mind before buying them so my expectations were too high). However, I feel that the Logitech G930 sound less "can-like" and sound more open and natural. The XB500s seemed a bit toned down and "dull", which is surprising considering I would think that the XB500's non-usb sound would sound much better. I have not equalized the XB500, and I've been listening to them for about 5 hours (maybe I haven't "broken-in" them yet?). Are there any suggestions or anything regarding the XB500s sounding dull?
So my question is how the XB700s compare to the Logitech G930/G35. Other than the bass, are there audible (significant?) improvements? Also, do the XB700s sound brighter than the XB500s?
I appreciate all the help I can get, thanks for helping a newcomer!
