^Hah! You have 99 / 99 on an MP3 test I had a hard time with, the upsampling should be really easy for you.

All you need is the equipment, SoX in foobar or the Musiland driver and a 24/192 capable DAC, at least that's what I use myself.

yeah after a while i got a system going. the songs are basically these 3-4 that are repeated. so you just have to remember to listen for that one part. for me, it was the piano . dun dun dun, and the guitar and volcals on the other songs. it took a while and my DAC and desktop setup wasn't that good... but it still worked. i initially tried with my HFI 580's....but it didn't work, couldn't hear a difference at all. Plugged in my Shure 440's...the difference came out. not profoundly, but enough in those unique parts for me to get my score after 20 minutes,

Is that 128kbs a CBR or VBR. Because there's world of a deference between the two.

what is the difference?

The difference is that 128kbs CBR is plain bad. While VBR is not, and is a lot harder to ABX for the untrained ear.

CBR and VBR? Last i heard, the only difference was that CBR maintained a Constant Bit rate while VBR didn't. This is to reduce size of the file even more at the cost of wasting a little more cpu cycles due to the un-uniform bit rate. Are you saying that CBR is worse than VBR bc the itunes VBR sounds better than CBR of teh same bit rate you have? if so, then that is innaccurate. if not. then enlighten me. VBR and CBR isn't talked about too often on head fi

At the same average bitrate, VBR will sound better at there will be moments/busy bits where the bitrate will spike higher than the CBR bitrate. The less complex parts of the track will have their frames lower than the average bitrate, which will increase the pool of 'extra bits' for those busy parts.

VBR is the way to go.

Oh I see...very small difference, but enough. But calling out the same song that's in CBR and VBR different is a little.....ya know. if this test was hard...just imagine how much harder the same bitrate would be.

I had a 100 percent success rate on the track with the bongos; and the one where there's a massive artifact ruining the girls voice at the start.

Cannot tell the third one apart at all though.

the one with the piano in the back? well a little bit through the song. say 10-15 seconds. the piano does this dun dun dun thing, noise around it disspears, mostly for a little bit. this is a .5 second thing so you have to be all "errrr" that's the part you can hear the difference at.
