Upgrade From Musilan Monitor 02?

Thread Starter

Hi all,

I'm new here and this is my first post.  I'm not a headphone guy, but have lurked these forums for over a year learning about computer audio and reading reviews.  I bought the Musiland 02 based on user reviews here and elsewhere, and have been happy with it.

I'll be adding a second PC to the system to use for Bluray, DVD, and Netflix, and the Musiland will see duty there.  I'm looking to upgrade, if possible, to a better dedicated USB - S/PDIF transport.  I got the Musiland for $125 on e-bay and the budget for its replacement is $250.  I've read a ton of threads on the DI, Hi-Face, V-Link, and more expensive options, and the Stello U3 stands out, but is out of my budget.  Also, while there are many comparisons to the Monitor 01, I can find very little on any of these going head-to-head with the Monitor 02 used as a digital transport.

My system is:

FLAC (and a growing library of 24 / 96) > J. River 15 > WASAPI > USB > Monitor 02 > Emotiva XDA-1 DAC > Emotiva USP-1 Pre - High-passed @ 52hz> Emotiva UPA-1 Monoblocks > LSA-1 Signature Monitors. I also run a Salk Songsub via the USP-1 low-pass outs and a DSPeaker Anti-Mode 8033.

Any user experience on upgrades?  Will twice the cost of the Monitor 02 get me significant improvements, or should I just buy another?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

(Edited to correct: Stello U3)
