GRADO SR60i or SR80i? - Page 2

I found the low end of the 60s to be extremely lacking compared to the 80s, I don't really see any reason to not get the 80i.  It's worth the money.

I think ill go with the 80s because if i go with the 60's ill probably end up with buyers regret wishing i bought the 80's. thanks guys

Not to confuse the issue more, but if you're going with 80s, why not spend the extra bit and get MS1is instead?

And skip the bowls. Get some modded HD414 pads instead.

They're Grados tuned by Alessandro. Little more bass, little taming of the highs, and overall just a really excellent headphone. Better deal than even the 125s.

I'll think about it sounds good.

I personally don't think the MS1i's are a "better deal than even the 125s".  And I've owned both.

But the MS1i can be a very nice sounding headphone.

But buyer beware: I had a pair of these that also had a very deficient low end.  I bought them brand new from Alessandro.  They sounded like the SR60i pair I listened to that I also didn't think sounded right.

This was about 2 years ago.  About a year ago I heard another pair of MS1i's, and they sounded perfectly fine to me.  My conclusion?  I have owned and listened to a bunch of Grado's over the years.  I have heard exactly 2 pair where I thought there was something wrong with them, the SR60i and the MS1i.  Poorer quality control at the low end?  Manufacturing defect?  I have no idea.

Grado's can have a variation in sound, and I've owned or listened to multiple pairs of the SR80i, MS1i, SR225i, MS2i, RS2i, and HF2, and I'm tellin' ya, there was something wrong with that one pair of SR60i's and the one pair of MS1i's.

Weird.

When I first tried both 80 and 60, I thought that the SR80s had slightly more bass than the SR60.

I have since done more comparisons, mainly between the SR60 (which is what I have), SR80 and SR225.

The general idea is that the MS-1 sounds like the SR125, rather than an SR80. So I'm guessing the SR125's

are not as bright as the SR60 and SR80. The SR225 is (imo) a lot more detailed and brighter sounding than the SR60

and SR80 so that's a weird pattern.

Anyhow, with bowl pads, my SR60 sounded closer to the SR225 than it did with comfies/HD414 pads.

The SR225i is a lot brighter than any of the MS1i, SR60i, SR80i, or SR125i due to the simple fact that they have bowl pads and not comfies.

I use comfies with my SR225's because otherwise I think they are too bright.  With comfies, they don't sound a heckuva lot different than the SR125i's or SR80i's.
