I have just recently purchased the Sennheisers HD650, and I am now thinking of purchasing Burson's DA160 DAC and HA160 Headamp for it.
The sound card I currently use is the xfi titanium fatal1ty, so that is why I am going with this setup since I need the optical input not present with the HA160DS, and the general impression of Burson with the HD650 seem positive.
Being new to audiophile grade products I have some questions.
1. Would I be correct in assuming that for:
- Gaming: this DAC will be able to pass the DSP done by my sound card to my headphones
- Music: all the data will bypass the sound card unless I add any effects on them through the Creative software suite.
2. Considering I am spending around 1600, would this be a sound purchase? By that I mean is there anything significantly wrong with these two products that would justify me to look at other options. Since these will be the first DAC and amp I purchase, I suppose I am talking more about build quality, realiabilty and what not; rather than the variance of sound that I would get with other combination.
Feel free to add any other suggestions, they would be very much welcome for my first system in which I can use as a basis. Budget of no more than 1800USD or 2000AUD. Also I am not interested in any tube amps.
