Denons? Able Planet? Agh.

Thread Starter

Hey everyone, I'm brand new here, but I read reviews and threads on Head-Fi all the time.

I've decided to make an account because I need help from the pros (you all).

I'm in an awkward spot.  I've been sporting B&O Form 2s for about 5 years (way too long).  My ears hurt.  Don't get me wrong, as they are my first pair of actual headphones (rather than Apple earbuds), I love em.  But an upgrade is long overdue, and being the holiday season, I've made sure that everyone know it.

That was my mistake.

Originally I was debating between V Modas and Senns that I would buy with my own money or ask for for Christmas, but then my friend, who goes through electronics like toilet paper (as in quickly...) offered me his Denon AH-D2000 for $150.  I know I can trust this guy, I was there the day he got em in the mail, which was only last year.  I know the cans are close to mint condition.  My answer to him? "um, duh"

So now I just wait until he gets home from Boston, right?

Wrong.

Today my girlfriend and I, impatient as we are, exchanged xmas gifts.

She had her heart in the right place, and I was really moved.  I opened up a set of Able Planet Clear Harmony NC 1000s.  I even tried em out, and I was surprised at how good they were, considering I've never seen the name here on the site.  But she knew as well as I did that the Denons coming my way were better (I think).  She can't return them, as they were apparently on Groupon.

So here it is Head-Fiers, an question somewhere between ethics and Headphone quality:

Should I reject the gift and wait for the Denons? Or is the quality of the Able Planet set good enough to forget about the Denons?

I know they're from different parts of the headphone world, but then again who else could answer my question better, that being the case?

I listen to a vast array of music, but my highest plays are from hip hop songs (Outkast type), relaxing electro type music, and House (If you couldn't tell from my avi, Daft Punk gets a LOT of play).  I listen from my Blackberry using the Spotify App for the most part, but I also have an iPod that I use occasionally. and my MacBook Pro of course.

Thank you guys.

D2000 are probably much better, but i think its still better to stay in good term with his girlfriend, lol.

Well rejecting a gift is just that rejecting a gift. I would get both. I will tell you right now $150 for a slightly used Denon D2000 is too good of a deal to pass up.. I haven't heard those Abel Planets myself but hey you can't return a gift. Enjoy them for now but you should not pass up on those Denons. Plus who says you can't have 2 headphones.? The Denons are more for home use anyhow..

^ Exactly.....explain that the headphones your girl gave you remind you of her every time you use them. Keep the Denons for use at home. Keep both.

Keep the Denons for home use, then use the Able Planets out and about. That's pretty much their intended use anyways.
