Why do you all look at the japanese price converted toi us dollars and say that's the price. In american dollars i would be surprised if their more then $600 for the srh1840 and $500 For the srh440. Everything is cheaper in the us and shure is a us based company. Remember shure's target audience? Studio and producers. These people prefer value products. I'm skeptical of anyone who says they are the japanese price here. Things in japan cost more money then they do here.

I think they will be careful, if they are going to be charging $950 a pop then there are many more worthy contenders out there to choose from! darthsmile.gif

I agree.

I can't make any conclusions regarding price.  We'll just have to see in January (hopefully)

I agree. And considering that Shure is a US company, I don't think they would charge that much for headphones here, especially not when in that price tier (JPY to USD exchange) there are a lot of top class headphones.

Conversion doesn't matter here. If it was a Japanese company importing to America, it might, but it is an American company importing to Japan (regardless of manufacturing location). They aren't going to charge the same, as bcasey has said. The pricing will be done differently.

That isn't entirely true... It depends on where you are and what you are buying. Right now, the only reason the gap has nearly fully closed on that is because of the exchange rates. It is the same as in America... NYC is more expensive than say Portland or Atlanta. It is all a matter of location and products. Though from what I have seen, headphones and electronics are generally pretty static in terms of pricing.

I'm definitely looking forward to demoing these when I can.

they look niiiice....

when you stop wondering around because you cant afford all HP you would like to have ,you start to conform about,little sad but better to to spend the money you dont have by credit cards or going to the banks and asking for a loan...anywhere in some places around the world its already impossible to get some hi-hi-fi headphones,even the mid-fi HP are extremely expensive,because:

-the hi-fi headphone market is developing only in a few and rich countries;

-the more where is not is already hard because the high tax products and import tax from who like to buy from us or europe.

when i get my HD800 with a 1000dollars amplifier i`ll stop worring about for about 20-30 years!the ill disconnect myself from head-fi world temptations!!haha

They are now on the UK Shure site, suggested retail is 599 pounds (which equates to a little over $900 US):

http://www.shure.co.uk/products/headphones/srh1840

So, we'll see what they are here in America, but I have a feeling that they will be $900 MSRP.  For instance, the SRH940 is 185 pounds ($290) on Amazon.co uk, which just happens to be around the street price here in the States.  The MSRP for the SRH940 is $375, so the street discount is about 25%.  This puts the SRH1840 at about $700 general retail.

Okay.. I think I'll pass on this one. tongue.gif

Still holding out on final pricing, but I guess we'll see if they can actually compete with the others in that tier. They are quickly getting into shark infested waters though.
