Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled! - Page 70

aside from the one amazon review, do we have any other impressions of either the 1440 or 1840?

i know the graphs look funny but do we have some actual listening impressions?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I have used the 1440s for 3 days and posted a link here with initial impressions.

I prefer to listen for at least a week or so, but so far I like them, from sound signature to ergonomic fit.

He's banned here IIRC

If you check the last of the comments you'll see a perfect example of this, but I just checked and his worst post was deleted by amazon.com (where he called someone an idiot retard etc. etc., because the guy said he finds his HD800 MUCH better than the SRH940 [which I also find to be true]). He also called Tyll and Jude know-nothings iirc.

I believe Dale Thorn was a user here on Head-Fi as oldshoe99 and as his status indicates, he was a previously banned user.

His Amazon review of the SRH940's, as well as his comments for the review, are very reminiscent of his logic used in the SRH940 thread and apparently there was a long argument on one of Tyll's recent updates on Innerfidelity.

Does it matter if someone was banned from head-fi? I realize we all have suspicions about peoples' motives and credibility, but I think it can be taken too far at times. More impressions will come for the SRH1840 in due time. Dale Thorn's are just one more data point to consider, and should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt with which any other impressions of a complete stranger should be taken.

i've had the 1440s on repeat at home and did some listening last night, after making an initial assessment on my 801 and x-7, both of which drive them more than adequately.

I am liking them very much, and find them very open, dynamic, and full range, and more than resolving enough to distinguish between the x-7, 801, and my home rig which is substantially better than any portable.  I need to spend more time listening to them, but so far I am enjoying them very much.  They do timbres/tonal colors very well, and capture the reedy sound of saxes, and the brass 'blat' of trumpets/trombones....  with great honesty.  Their dynamics are explosive, which i also value quite highly.  Their bass has weight and extension, and is in balance with the rest of the frequency range.  They are very coherent, which is also important to me.

They are very comfortable on my  shaved head, which is above-average size, but not huge.

So far so good - I will follow up with more comments and let you know when my colleague and i perform the hostage exchange and I get the 1840s to listen to.

Well, if you care , this time a video review from the "thorned" guy.

At least you have to admit that the design & packaging is awesome.  Now what shure have to do, is find a  star to associate with these headphone , and then it would sell pretty well. Would lady gaga accept to endorse these "bass light" headphones biggrin.gif ?

Stax 507 would be nice, these two are competing for my next purchase.

Nice to hear. I guess we can't judge by graphs after all. I find the ATH-AD900 bass light and the Shures have more upper mids than the AT, which would probably hide the bass even more.
