Do I need to amplify? Input greatly appreciated

Thread Starter

Hi folks,

So, I am anxiously awaiting my JH16's to arrive-my first custom IEM's.  Been listening to Senn IE8's for about 3 years.  My source is a Cowon S9 and J3, nothing but ripped CD FLAC files.

I have been reading a LOT about amplification and am really stumped.  Do I need to amplify with this combination?  Does it always provide a wider soundstage and improved bass response for every IEM/source setup?

single-ended vs. balanced, and the myriad of models.  After much reading, I really like the Pico Slim, TTVJ Slim, RSA Protector and SR71B.

Part of the problem is that every review I read states that the best source/amp/IEM setup is really a personal choice as to which provides the best performance.......that makes selecting one really hard!

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated....

Jeff.

If they did not benefit from amping then jhaudio would not have come out with the jh3. Eventhough you can run them un amped, they do shine with one.
