How to clean ear pads for Beyer Dt 990 headphones?

I've had my 990's for about 10 months now, but the ear pads have become very dirty and not soft anymore. I suspect that if I were to hand wash them and let them air dry, the dirtiness would disappear and the softness would return. The only question is how do I remove them from the drivers and how you recommend washing the ear pads?

I don't know about washing them but on the DT880 (basically the same earpad-wise), you can just reach and rip'em out. Not actually rip but if you look behind the cup, you can clearly see the earpads overlapping the cup and you can just remove it. It's how I installed my J$ pads. They're a trouble to get back on and I wouldn't suggest doing it willy nilly but once in a while for a wash, not so bad.
