Where did you get your EX1000s for $284 Lee?

Also, thank you for the comparison response earlier.  How is the isolation of the IE80 compared to the old IE8 though?  Is it also identical and subpar?  I'm sure it isn't as bad as the FX700 (like you said).

The isolation is the same. Pretty much same IEM driver housing just with a different front design. I got the EX1000 through battlebrat. He has a friend who works for Sony so he got the employee discount.

Thank you for clarifying that.  I'm jealous.  I want a friend who works for Sony...

One last question and I am done bothering you: how would you describe their sound signature (basshead, treblehead, neutral, v-shaped, etc.)?

Its kinda hard to describe. More on the bassy side but the treble and mid range aren't recessed. Wouldn't call it neutral but its more of a balanced presentation due to the frequencies being more in line with each other than not (like it was on the IE8 before). The bass is very controlled.

Thank you Lee.

Also the Studio V is a match made in heaven with the IE80s. Also quite good on the FX700 but there's just something about it with the IE80s...

You could also get a used pair in mint condition *cough* hint *cough* ;)

Thats possible but people tend to snatch them up pretty fast. He'll have to keep his eyes open.

I will look into that Studio V.

I already own the FX700 guys, but thank you though for the hint.

ive tried the fx700 with my studio, and it didnt impress me much in terms of synergy.

try it with an earbud like the senn mx980 and youll be amazed by sheer soundstage and instrument separation!

Completely agree with you. The FX700 doesn't pair very well with the Studio V. Yet the IE80 pairs amazingly well with the Studio V. I really wanted to sell my Hifiman 601 but I won't have a hi-grade DAP to pair with it if I do :( Maybe I can manage with the Sansa Fuze with it... Decisions deductions...

But did you try the BA firmware with the FX700. After switching to that firmware the FX700 sounds really good with the Studio V while the IE80 sounds really good with the Dynamic firmware.

ZARIM, you really need to start making it clear whether you've actually heard all these phones that you keep recommending. I've asked you before if you've heard them (as have other people)  - and you never respond. In an expensive hobby like this, it's only fair that other members should know if your opinions are based on your own experience, or based on what you've read from other people's reviews. If they're based on what you personally have heard, then fine, but you should make it clear.

Soozieq do you still own your FX700? Thought you sold those and moved on? :p  So far I've been really enjoying the IE80s. Since I don't have to us EQ with them like on the IE8 they are my preferred sound signature (especially with the Studio V).
