I have a WD7501AALS that I put in use this January for storage. Its my HDD #4 all sata to the MB, its not my main OS drive (which is an SSD.)
I download Grateful Dead concerts (legal) so this drive gets a fair amount of use, probably a couple gbs a week.
Recently when I play tracks (any and all) from this particular drive I get drop-outs/skips. This is with no other use of the drive going on. Playing same tracks from any of my other drives gives no problems. I unistalled Foobar and installed the latest just to rule that out. Problem remained.
I use Wasapi with an Art Legato. When the dropout occur I can "see them" on the foobar visualization scroll.
According to S.M.A.R.T everything has status OK (Hard disk sentinel 3.4 pro.)
Now this is an black drive which I thought better for heavy use.
Only isue is temp reports 53F with a 58F max. I try to keep the noise down. All my other drives read 30-40C so I always thought this was just a poorly calibrated sensor.
But is it possible it is thermal throttling? I guess has anyone run across an issue like this and what should I try before getting rid of it?
