I need a comfortable pair for long travel. I love the sound signature of the akg 242s; what I like is the soundstage and the bright clear airy sound. These work really well for live music and bands like Mumford and Sons. The Shure 530s are awesome for anything that requires bass and are pretty good with details, but don't have a a very good soundstage compared to a pair of open back 242s, and get pretty fatiguing after long periods of time so I use these for the gym, running, and studying.
So the qualities that I want in a new pair of headphones are for them to be comfortable, good soundstage, good bass, closed back, and sound pretty good on a cmoy and J3 FLAC player.
I'm also pretty concerned that the akg 271s won't be that much different and wont have the extra bass I'm looking for, but I don't want the m50s to sound boring and have a small sound stage.
These are going to be used during long studying sessions in the EE lab.
*Side note I do not listen to metal
Some current bands I have been listening to
Mumford and sons
grizzly bear
Daft Punk
Ratatatt
