If there was a 10db difference, I am sure I'd notice. I'll still listen carefully. If anything is truly off, which I doubt is the case, then I know Heir Audio will go out of their way to fix it. They're good people and I am not worried about giving them my business.

That seems like a reasonable explanation. I know Tyll hasn't tried measuring customs for that same reason.

The drivers look totally mismatched, and the response pretty much drops off altogether above 10kHz. That's not what I'm hearing from mine at all, and I bet it isn't what you are hearing either. With dual high and dual super-high frequency drivers, there's just no way this is an acceptable representation of the 8.A sound. Either yours are defective, or this chart is wrong (and I'm leaning towards the latter being the best explanation).

I guess i will be sending the 8.As back after a listening to em for a couple of minutes.

Firstly, the 8.As are giving me a fatiguing listening experience within a minute or so. The highs are pretty messed up and i am experiencing sibilance and is nowhere closed to the 'smooth' treble experience that is mentioned in many of the reviews out there. Instrument seperation is a hit and miss and i know it could be better.

Well the good news is despite receiving a partially defective unit, i could already see the potential in the 8.A particularly in the bass and vocal region. It strives to achieve musicality and perfect accuracy at the same time.

The lows are fantastic (it goes deep and hard hitting) and the mids are a worthy competitor to my ES5s. I tested with pure vocal tracks and i dont face this problem. I have emailed John regarding this and will be expecting a response from him soon. Wow dang i am probably the first 8.A user with such problem here :(

I find my J3 makes a mess of driving custom IEMs (poor treble and poor bass response) - I don't know how the Z1070 handles low-impedance multi-BA CIEMs, but I'd suggest you try your 8.As with a better amp (and burn them in a bit) before sending them back to China.

This doesn't make me feel good!

Be sure and post his response. They are swamped right now so maybe that has something to do with it. Rushed it out the door. I would happily wait 6 weeks than have to ship it back.

The thing is that i am not experiencing such issues with my ES5s. I am getting pretty much the same results after a LOD to my fiio amp. It is not a high end amp but the imperfections i receive in the highs are quite prevalent.

well it doesnt matter anyway.. i will be most probably sending them back for a musician fit as i prefer the canals to go in deep o2smile.gif

I am no good with describing music based on frequencies but i did try playing some treble eccentric songs( from rock to the heavy death metal) to find where the fault lies. The cymbals and double pedals are definitely harsh. I will definitely go deaf if this carries on.

hmm what EQ setting are you using with your J3?

No EQ. The results are the same with my walkman and sansa (both LOD to E11 amp)

Yes. The canals of my es5s are past the 2nd bend in the ear

Default (probably a 'mistake' on their part?). It was quite uncomfortable for a while but it is actually quite stable and allows for better volume control.

Check out this pic of my UM Merlin graph. This is the prototype Merlin with somewhat more subdued bass than the final design, but it is close enough.

Look how similar it is to the 8.A chart posted earlier - from 20Hz to around 6kHz, it has a very similar curve. But then look at the rest of the chart. In my humble opinion, there is no way that 8.A chart is accurate in the region above 6kHz.

The boost at 5-6kHz looks worse than it really is - most TWFK based designs have a similar appearance, which is meant to compensate for the loss that we aren't getting from the external ear (which would give a natural boost in that range when using full size cans or speakers). Plenty of UM designs have a similar boost, many of them looking closer to the above 8.A chart than my Merlin chart. So that isn't the issue at all.
