Heir Audio - new high end custom IEM company - Page 15

@stubzor - do post your impressions on my review thread to see if your impressions match with mine to some degree!

Did anyone get custom artwork on theirs? I'm having trouble with my artwork as it's been stated as too complex and therefore keeps getting rejected, what would be ideal?

I don't think they do upgrades at this time, maybe someday in the future they will.

I have to say that I don't think adding drivers is the best idea. Most people don't seem to know this, but there are actually quite a few TWFK variants out there... many of which have proprietary models numbers. How does the reshelling company know what their exact capabilities are? Or how to integrate them best into the new setup? They would need to do some testing and basically do a whole new design. That's a lot of work for the price that people usually want to pay. And the results are not likely to be as good as one of their regular designs.

Wouldn't it be better to sell the DBA-02 and put that money towards the 4.A?

so how much did you spend in total?

Yes, the Wizard got back to me about that; it seems like it's mostly a supply and market issue, and so an upgrade isn't on the table.

My original idea for adding drivers was really just for an experimenting process and the thought of having a universal re-purposed into a custom seemed like a cool idea. I wasn't so much concerned about having it sound its absolute best.

With that being said, I'll probably end up selling the DBA-02 if I end up getting the 4.A by virtue of their occupying the same functional space in my collection. The only problem is that where I live, the DBA doesn't get much second hand interest, and if I sell it on here, I don't always have time to make the trip to the post office and mail internationally, so it's a little bit of a hassle for me.

based on suggestions from the wizard as a result of my visual condition, the shell is light smoke, with a woody faceplate and inlay. I am letting the Wizard do his magic on the face and inlay. So we will have to waiting until he sends me a picture. I think I am gonna have the W3 reshelled in black mamba, and the JH13 done in one those awesome blues listed on his FB page. I will be sending out my box on Tuesday. Sadly I really want to order the 6.A and the 4.A as well for comparisons, but just so many decisions. It took me over a week just to decide on the options for the 8.A. It will be nice that when I order the other 2, that the impressions will already be on file with Heir so no need to send them again. But I am afraid the promo pricing will be over by then.

Does Heir use the UE style or Westone style connectors? I would send an email, but im pretty sure Dr. John is stick of them.

Here's the email the wizard sent me when\n i asked the same question:

"Socket -  The socket fits all the popular cables used with brands such as JH/UE (prior their new design)/Westone/Alien Ears/InEarz and the list can go on.

That said, I can not vouch for small custom out fits such as Moon, Null, Helix etc. I do not know who supplies them with their male pins, and I do not know their “tolerance” specs on their male pins. But logically speaking, you would think they would match the standard size of male pins that the industry is used, if not, they would not be in business very long."

Perfect, thanks much!

Ordered the 4.A last night. My first customs, so it took me a ridiculously long time - nerves and worrying how to style them. Now to make an appointment with an audiologist.

Hopefully I can get impressions made and out to them fast enough that they'll get the work done before everything in China shuts down for Lunar New Year.

My review of the 8.A is up.

I've forgotten if this is the official Heir Audio appreciation thread. I've linked to my review in the second post, but Project 86, if you would like to start linking to Heir Audio reviews in your opening post, we can do that.

Heir seems like a very impressive start-up company.  Any ideas on which of their models is most tonally similar to Westone's ES5?  Thanks in advance.

You guys would want to play your orders asap. Chinese New Yr is coming so there might be few weeks of delay if you were to miss the window.

Nice! I'll link to it on the original post, since I pretty much agree with everything said.
