Heir Audio - new high end custom IEM company - Page 8

Normally I'd say 5 hours is too quick to expect a response from most companies. But Dr. Moulton usually is that quick. Or even quicker. I swear the guy never sleeps. But as Kunlun said, he is on vacation, travelling and such, so there may be a short delay. But I'd guess you still get a response within a day or so.

I got my response, I sent my email to the wrong address, but I pm'd him as well. Just working out the details of my order. I am gonna get a wood face plate so I gotta decide on that. I asked him what is the best color for the shell with a wood faceplate. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Orange, wine red, purple, smoke black?

Those would be the colours I'd go for.

I just told John to do whatever he thought looked best with the wood I went for. :)

That's the route I will take I think too.

Letting John decide what to do should end well - that's what I did with my LiveWires reshell and I'm immensely pleased with the results.

For a woody faceplate, and assuming a more traditional brownish wood - I would get some kind of brownish shell, or smokey grey, or maybe even solid opaque black. Probably not anything too light colored. But I could be wrong - I would have never chosen the colors of my LiveWires reshell in a million years, yet I think it looks great.

Unfortunately it has been mentioned that Dr. Moulton is out of amber colorant, and is waiting on an order from Germany. Without it, it's difficult to match the wood to the acrylic color (IMO). I did a very light smoke color, which turned out to be pretty good. With the siamese rosewood I didn't think red acrylic would work well.

It should also be mentioned that he is based in China, so time zone differences must be taken into account when corresponding.

Did he mention when he's getting more of the amber colorant? I was really excited about it, and finding out he was out was kind of a letdown. I let him do whatever with a reshell of mine and pretty much the same for the 8.A's, but if the amber is coming back, I might request that :)

changing topics a little, i think maybe the ordering process could be streamlined a bit(unless i've done something wrong!). at the moment after submitting your order you have to email again for instructions on where to send your impressions. please feel free to laugh at me if i've got this all wrong!!!

update: sorry guys looks like i am stupid after all! and i think project86 is right about the not sleeping part!
